Ana Bogdan has been up against Arantxa Rus four times since the 2017 campaign and if familiarity breeds success the Romanian has the edge. The line setters seem to agree by posting Bogdan as the slight favorite although the -135 doesn’t make a big statement against Rus’ chances to pull the upset.

Can the Dutch lefty surprise Bogdan and progress in Section 6 to the second round of the US Open?

Answer: No!

I am not one to fade a player who has never lost to her opponent when they have met a handful of times, and Arantxa Rus doesn’t have the chops to take out Bogdan. If you recall last week, I handed out Rus to take out Tomova as a +120 underdog and she came through with flying colors. 

These two ladies are only 2 spots apart in the rankings (91st and 93rd resp), and let’s just be honest. Bogdan has been dealing with a disappointing campaign and Rus has a losing record on hardcourts.

This match is going three sets because of enforced errors and breaks of service games adding up. Rus will come out and win the first set (+108 at Pinnacle) and Bogdan will have to respond and force the issue as the favorite. 

The Romanian will respond to take two sets and advance with a 2 – 1 victory as we cash the +140 ticket on the Over 2.5 Sets prop to start the week at the US Open in New York.

Ana Bogdan was mired in a 6-match losing skid before hitting the United States. Ana won four matches in Ohio before getting bounced out of the event by eventual finalist Ana Potapova. 

Bogdan is 10 – 8 on hardcourts this season with a 15 – 19 record in 2024 and if she isn’t careful the Romanian could end 2024 with a losing record on all three surfaces.

ARANTXA RUS RECENT FORM

Arantxa Rus is 9 – 10 on hardcourts this season and a loss would push her record back to an even 27 – 27 in 2024. 

Rus was a win away from a title in Hamburg before heading to Cleveland and after two wins in Ohio, the Dutch lefty was dismissed by McCartney Kessler who hoisted the Tennis in the Land hardware this past weekend.

Ana Bogdan is a perfect 4 – 0 against Arantxa Rus and their most recent clash took place in February at the Cjuj-Napoca event in Romania. Bogdan earned a three-set victory after Rus jumped to a first-set win, 6 – 3.
