Some inclement weather slowed down the conclusion of qualifying on Sunday but luckily the next week in Monastir, Tunisia looks moderately comfortable. 

Now that the main draw is officially set, Alycia Parks is barely favored against Yuriko Miyazaki and this line seems too good to be true. Usually when a line isn’t what you might expect, that could mean your read was wrong because I expected to see Parks at -140 for this contest.

Bwin is posting odds at -115 on Parks to win and a -111 offer on Miyazaki to prevail and Pinnacle, as usual, has the best offer at -110 on the American to take this first-round victory.

The Brit is ranked 144th on the WTA Tour and so far the North American swing hasn’t been a successful venture for Miyazaki. A win over Elizabeth Stevens in Lexington and two wins at the US Open account for all three wins since Wimbledon.

Alycia Parks has been winning matches and putting up some nice stats since the end of the grass campaign including the run to the Warsaw WTA 75 Challenger title to finish July. 

If Alycia doesn’t see this opportunity as a match she should win, maybe I am missing something after all. This line does surprise me but it won’t stop me from believing that Alycia Parks is landing in the second round of the Jasmin Open.

ALYCIA PARKS RECENT FORM

Alycia Parks ended the grass season with a 9 – 1 record and the American carried that into a 6 – 0 run at the Warsaw Challenger.

Parks hasn’t fared well in her return to North America getting ousted in the opening match at Toronto and going 1 – 1 at the US Open. 

Alycia is ranked 117th on the WTA Tour and the 23-year-old Georgia native holds a 9 – 11 record on hardcourts this season.

YURIKO MIYAZAKI RECENT FORM

Yuriko Miyazaki is 21 – 13 on hardcourts this season and it’s the only surface the Brit will produce a winning record. After an ugly 0 – 3 on clay, Miyazaki went 2 – 5 on grass before returning to hard court play.

Miyazaki is 3 – 4 on the North American swing and neither of the victories have come against opponents ranked higher than 216th.
