Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Heather Watson made quick work of their first opponents in qualifying and the two will battle it out on Wednesday at the US Open.

Ranked 101st on the WTA Tour, Sasnovich appears 90 spots ahead of Watson but the Brit finds herself favored with average odds of -125 to reach the final game in the Second Qualifier bracket.

Unibet offers the best price at -118 on Watson to advance and EJ Garr’s Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Heather Watson prediction leans on the favorite to advance.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Heather Watson Prediction: Tea and Crumpets On the Menu in NY

  • Prediction: Heather Watson Moneyline
  • Best Odds: -118
  • Bookmaker: Unibet
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at  7:00 am UK Time on August 21, 2024.

A spot of tea with crumpets will be served in New York on Wednesday, and that’s because Heather Watson will feel right at home when she takes on Sasnovich.

As we all know I don’t put a ton of stock in the rankings but when the 191st-ranked player in the world is favored it says something.

Heather Watson is 7 – 1 in her last 8 outings including a run to the W50 Nottingham title to wrap up July. While the record looks good on paper the level of opponents she has faced leaves plenty to be desired and I get that.

This line is bothering me and seeing Watson favored might seem strange since the Brit is barely ranked inside the top 200 (191). Confidence is a big tool and Watson has it coming into this match despite the quality of players she’s faced to accumulate the 7 – 1 record.

Winning a title of any nature is still a good boost of confidence and in case you haven’t noticed it’s been 11 years since Aliaksandra has hoisted any hardware.

I am in the mood to be a little obnoxious today so let’s put this offer on the table. Heather Watson is going to win this match in three sets and William Hill is posting +340 odds toward a 2 – 1 correct score on the Brit to advance. After you splash the Watson Moneyline with marginal juice, hit that prop and enjoy the payday!

ALIAKSANDRA SASNOVICH RECENT FORM

Did I mention it’s been 11 years since Sasnovich has won any tournament? I did, although she was one win away from taking the Budapest title less than a month ago.

Sasnovich has a winning record on clay and grass this season but the hardcourts have provided the struggles. Aliaksandra is 7 – 10 on hardcourts and 22 – 21 for the season and if she isn’t careful it will be asecond straight campaign with a losing record on this surface.

HEATHER WATSON RECENT FORM

Heather Watson is 7 – 1 in her last 8 outings as I mentioned above, although the wins en route the Nottingham title came against players ranked outside the top 200. Not one win in this 7 – 1 stretch will impress anyone but you can only line up against who is in front of you. The work still needs to be done and Heather claimed her first title since the 2020 campaign in her native UK..

Watson is 14 – 8 on hardcourts this season but the 1 – 3 record on grass came as a surprise. This is the first season since 2019 that Watson will have a losing record on grass and the 1 – 4 record on clay is just as ugly.

SASNOVICH VS WATSON H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Sasnovich and Watson have only met once on the WTA Tour and the match happened in 2021 at Cincinnati. Watson won that match in three sets in a strange affair.

Watson won the first set, 6 – 2, and Sasnovich responded with a 6 – 3 second set win. Sasnovich almost got skunked in the final frame at 6 – 1 to give Heather the dub.
