But it’s not just that, when I look at the match-up here, I don’t see many ways to victory for the Frenchman. His opponent is too experienced, in excellent shape, throws more shots and frankly has a lot more KO power.
Cannonier used to be a damn heavyweight. He hits like a train and even ALMOST knocked out the chin goblin Marvin Vettori. It’s been almost a year since that fight, but Cannonier was exceptional, landing 241 significant strikes.
Imavov usually starts strong but starts fading after some time. This will be a 5-round fight, and I would not be surprised if Cannonier ends it early. He is 40, but still hits like a truck and his conditioning is elite. He also has the volume and reach advantage. My Cannonier vs Imavov prediction is for Cannonier to win and possibly by KO!
Jared Cannonier Record, Form, Stats: No Signs of Slowing for The Killa Gorilla
Jared Cannonier has been fighting since 2011 and holds an MMA record of 23 wins and 6 losses. He started at Heavyeright, but ultimately moved down to Middleweight in 2018 to face David Branch. He has faced the best fighters the UFC has had to offer in the last 5 years, amassing a record of 6 wins and 2 losses.
The list consists of Anderson Silva, Jack Hermansson, Robert Whittaker, Kelvin Gastelum, Derek Brunson, Israel Adesanya, Sean Strickland, and Marvin Vettori. His only 2 losses have come against Adesanya and Whittaker, but you could argue that the close fight against Strickland could have been a loss.
With that said, Jared Cannonier is coming off a terrific performance against Marvin Vettori where he looked in amazing shape and his striking volume was superb.
Nassourdine Imavov Record, Form, Stats: The Sniper Eyes Top 5
Nassourdine Imavov is currently ranked 7th in the UFC Middleweight rankings with a 13-4 MMA record at 29 years of age. This will be his 9th fight under the UFC banner where he has 5 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
I mentioned his performance against Strickland a year ago, where he had the luxury of a full camp and had every factor going for him to come out on top. For some reason, he only threw 123 significant strikes and lost by unanimous decision.
His next fight was an unfortunate draw against Chris Curtis. Imavov was dominant in that one before the headbutt and Curtis was unable to continue. The Frenchman was leading 57-26 in significant strikes and 3-0 in takedowns.
He went on to win his most recent fight against Roman Dolidze, a fighter coming off a decision loss against Vettori. Dolidze only threw 59 strikes in the entire 5-round fight, 34 of which were significant. Imavov still only had 112, but it was enough to get him the nod. For reference, Vettori had 106 significant strikes in a 3-round bout against Dolidze.
