Colorado vs St. Louis NHL Best Bet: May 17th
The Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues open their second-round playoff series on Tuesday night and our resident NHL expert Ej Garr is here to break it down. The Avs are heavy favourites to take out the Blues and land in the Western Conference finals but we all know that is why they play the games. Anything can happen and the line setters only further motivated the Blues by giving them no chance to win this series.

Are you ready for some more rubber to burn the nets? Whether you are a trend bettor or just a fan of goal-scoring you are in for a treat with this series. You might have figured out by now that I don’t constantly point to trends and stats because I watch so much hockey that I go by my gut more often than not.
Well, we have both things at our convenience this time because I am pointing to this total to go over the 7 goals and the trends are screaming the same.
Here you go! How about a head-to-head trend? The Over is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between the two teams. The two met 3 times in the regular season and all 3 matches toppled the total, and the other 3 games in that 6 – 0 date back to their playoff series last season. If you recall, the Blues and Avalanche met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season and the line setters are probably weighing that 4 – 0 sweep for the Avalanche into this series.
At -400 (1.25), Blues Head Coach Craig Berube probably made it a point to post the odds of them winning this series somewhere where everyone can see it nice and big! NO CHANCE! “We have no chance guys, so why lace them up and even try to play the mighty, mighty, Avalanche?”
Revenge can be a powerful tool and there is plenty of motivation in that alone.
Here are the series prices for this matchup:
St. Louis 4.50
Colorado 1.25
I know, right. The underdog thinker that I am is screaming to jump on St. Louis so I can cash a nice ticket on top of simply saying I called for it to happen. However, unless you are just tuning into the playoffs the Blues got here because their offence went nuts in their series with Minnesota. The Wild took some pride in their defence but the Blues scored 5 goals in all 3 of the last 3 games to conclude the series with Minnesota.
Oh, you wanted more trends? You got them!
The Over is 13-2-1 in the Blues’ last 16 road games. The Over is 6-1 in the Blues’ last 7 playoff games as an underdog. The Over is 22-9-1 in the Blues’ last 32 overall. There are about 20 more I could point out but let’s not go overboard and post a few about the Avs totals.
The Over is 16-6 in the Avalanche’s last 22 playoff games as a favourite. The Over is 6-1 in the Avalanche’s last 7 Conference Semifinals games. Okay, that should fill your trends fix so I can get back to doing what I do and just give out the best bet to make and that is on this total.
I am covering both Tuesday games and I mentioned the NHL Grand Salami prop in my Florida vs Tampa Bay article. The number is 13.5 and the line is 1.83 on the expectation on the over.
Take that, take this Over 7 at a lovely 2.25, and I’ll meet you at the window with a couple of tickets that need to be cashed in!
