Gavin Cromwell’s mare had some useful form over staying trips on the flat, and made a very pleasing start over hurdles when landing hefty market confidence at Fairyhouse in January. She remains open to plenty of improvement as her jumping sharpens with experience, and this stiff track over 2m1f should certainly bring her proven stamina into play up the final sapping Cheltenham hill.

Gordon Elliott’s bumper and hurdle winner has always been a chaser on looks, and he has run three cracking races in defeat since making a winning start in this sphere at Down Royal in November. Jumping errors have rather held back his finishing effort at Naas and Leopardstown since (good form behind Majborough at the DRF), but there is no doubting his engine and he seems sure to go very close here if he can put in a clean round under the top class Jack Kennedy.

Gavin Cromwell’s 6-y-o remains completely unexposed over hurdles after just five career starts, and he comes into the festival on the upgrade having landed hefty market confidence at Punchestown and Naas since going handicapping. A true test of stamina at three miles should really suit (pointing background), and he has attracted some interesting market support in the last few weeks for this fiercely competitive Pertemps final.

Willie Mullins top class chaser remains open to some improvement after seven runs over fences, and he represents a confident selection coming here back down in trip under a much more positive ride. He was negatively ridden and shaped really well at the Dublin Racing festival in February, and a patient ride in a strongly run Ryanair can see him pounce late. This 2m4f trip on spring ground promises to suit ideally, and none of his rivals have the potential that he possesses (did plenty wrong when winning the Brown Advisory last year at the Festival).

Gordon Elliott’s “second string” is a very interesting runner, and looks decent value each-way at around the 12/1 mark with Pricedupbet. The 7-y-o has now won 6 from 12 over hurdles so far, improving run to run as his stamina has been drawn out, and caught the eye stepping up in class when fourth behind Crambo in the Long Walk at Ascot (first run in the JP McManus colours). He was poorly placed and finished with running left in the tank there, and is likely to enjoy the strong gallop likely in this Grade 1 prize. There is no doubt he is a bigger price than he should be because most judges have him pegged as a progressive handicapper, but this division is hardly the strongest and he represents different formlines altogether to the principals.

Ben Pauling’s young chaser was tapped for pace round Windsor’s sharp two miles last time out, but had looked a natural fit for this race when a very promising second over this trip at Ascot previously. He remains open to plenty more improvement after four runs over fences, and the yard have enjoyed a fantastic season.

Jonjo O’Neill’s unexposed chaser went straight into the notebook for a festival handicap when finishing third behind the impressive The Jukebox Man at Newbury in November, and he has certainly been allotted a lenient looking opening mark. Jumping errors proved costly when he disappointed at Ascot in December, but that trip was far too short for him, and this 3m2f test should be a lot more suitable if he can put in a clean round of fencing.
