Valencia Relegation Odds: Why Backing Los Che to Go Down Makes Sense

Valencia’s La Liga status hangs by a thread. Just two seasons after narrowly avoiding the drop, the 2004 champions are once again embroiled in a relegation battle. With only two league wins this season and protests against owner Peter Lim intensifying, the club faces a daunting path to survival.

Peter Lim’s Ownership: A Downward Spiral

When Peter Lim purchased Valencia in 2014, fans hoped for a return to glory. Instead, the billionaire’s tenure has seen the club steadily decline. While Valencia achieved three top-four finishes in his first five years, they’ve since slid into mediocrity, narrowly avoiding relegation in 2022/23.

This season, Ruben Baraja’s side has shown little promise. They’ve secured just two wins from 14 matches and sit five points from safety. Even with a game in hand, their form is alarming, particularly after a toothless 2-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano at home, despite dominating possession.

Attack and Defence Both Faltering

Valencia’s offensive struggles are glaring. They’re averaging just 0.93 goals per game, ranking third-worst in La Liga, and their xG of 0.87 per match is the division’s second-lowest. This marks a decline even from last season, when they narrowly avoided relegation.

Defensively, the stats are equally damning. Los Che concede 1.57 goals per game, closely aligned with their xGA of 1.48. With just three clean sheets all season, their defence has been porous, offering little hope for a turnaround.

A Tough Road Ahead

While Friday’s opponents, Valladolid, are also struggling, Valencia’s poor away form (two points from seven road matches) is a major concern. Despite Valladolid’s instability under caretaker Alvaro Rubio, they defeated Valencia 1-0 in this fixture last season.

Final Verdict

With a toxic atmosphere surrounding the club, poor performances on the pitch, and damning stats in both attack and defence, Valencia look primed for relegation. Backing Los Che to go down may be one of the smartest bets in this La Liga season.
