After a tumultuous season in which they came 16th, Sunderland opted for the appointment of Regis Le Bris of Lorient. The Frenchman has had a storming start to life on the Tyne and Wear, as the Black Cats sit top of the Championship.

Under his guise, Sunderland have won six of their eight games, losing the other two by just one goal. At the Stadium of Light, Sunderland have been immaculate, winning all four games, conceding none in the process.

Leeds are just three points off Sunderland in third place and boast the second best defensive record in the league, conceding just five times. Daniel Farke’s side have won two and drawn two of their four away games, with their two wins coming against bottom place Cardiff and 20th placed Sheffield Wednesday,

With two evenly matches teams, the value lies with the host in what should be a cagey match.

Midweeks EFL Championship slate saw Sunderland win their fourth straight home game to nil, making it 3/4 home games where under 2.5 goals have landed, with the exception the 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, where the sides combined for just 2.05 xG. It was also the first time in history where Sunderland have won their opening four home games to nil.

Leeds drew 1-1 at Norwich, extending their unbeaten run. It was also the first goal Daniel Farke’s side had conceded on the road, having drawn 0-0 at West Brom, and won 0-2 at Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday.

Friday pits two of the Championships meanest defences against each other. With both teams battling for promotion, it should be a low-scoring affair as both teams look not to lose.

Sunderland vs Leeds Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups: Sunderland Injuries Mounting Up

Sunderland will be without six players for the visit of Leeds. Ahmed Abdullahi, Ajibola Alese, Eliezer Mayenda, Jenson Seelt, Niall Huggins and Salis Samed are expected to still be out injured.

Leeds are without Daniel James, Ethan Ampadu, Manor Solomon and Max Wober with injuries, while Ilia Gruev limped off injured against Norwich.
