Mikael Silvestre suggests Rashford is a good option for PSG with Manchester United Open to Offers
Here at bettingexpert, Devang Prasad sat down with former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre. The pair discussed a whole heap of issues pertaining to Manchester United from the future of Marcus Rashford, with United open to offers to some potential incomings at Old Trafford this summer.
Rashford would be good for PSG
According to reports Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for virtually all their first-team squad this summer including Marcus Rashford. Paris St-Germain have previously been linked with Rashford and are set to lose Kylian Mbappe this summer. Could Rashford be a ready made replacement for the Frenchman?
Rashford, who will be hoping to part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 plans is not guaranteed a seat on the plane after a lacklustre season in which he has scored 8 goals and has 5 assists to his name. The England international recently came out to criticise the abuse he has faced from United fans this season leading to the idea that his future could be away from Old Trafford.
“If Marcus decides to go to PSG, it would be good for Paris and I’m sure he will do well over there in Ligue 1. Paris will be in the Champions League next season as well.”
“They would be happy to have him. Will he replace Mbappe? Mbappe is Ballon d’Or level so Marcus still has a lot to do to get to that level. It’s not quite the same.”
Time for Todibo to make a step up
Jean-Clair Todibo’s contract at Nice will be up at the end of this season and Man Utd will face competition from Chelsea, Tottenham, FC Barcelona and others for his signature. Is it time for Todibo to make a step up?
“It’s the same owner (for Nice and Man Utd). If he goes somewhere, it’s got to be United.”
“He’s a good player. He had a tough time at Barcelona to adapt. He broke on to the scene early and he thought that with his qualities it would be enough to play. He had to learn it the hard way and go on loan to Benfica and then going back to Ligue 1.”
“Now’s the time for him to make a big step to a bigger league and I’m sure there will be a few teams going for him.”
Murillo could be an option for United
Nottingham Forest defender Murillo is also said to be on the Red Devils’ radar with the future of Raphael Varane up in the air. The Frenchman has been hit with injuries during his time at United and has reportedly been asked to take a wage cut if he is to stay in Manchester. Could Murillo be a ready made replacement?
“Murillo is one of the players you have to look at the CB position.”
“With United you have a lot of question marks around that position with Martinez, Lindelof and Varane.”
“Martinez and Lindelof are often injured. Varane is out of contract in the summer. So maybe he could be replaced by a young Murillo. He could be an option.”
McTominay has been a positive for ten Hag
Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay came out to say the injury he picked up against Burnley won’t keep him out for too long after reports suggested he may miss Euro 2024. McTominay was Scotland’s top scorer in Euro 2024 qualifying with seven goals and has scored ten goals and three assists in 39 games in all competitions. McTominay was nearly sold to West Ham last summer but has gone on to prove invaluable to ten Hag.
“Scott being an academy product and a good squad player. With his attribute of being able to score crucial goals, in crucial games, you don’t have a secret weapon but something extremely positive for the manager.”
Garnacho was wrong for social media usage
Alejandro Garnacho was at the centre of a social media storm a few weeks ago after liking tweets from a Manchester United fan account that criticised ten Hag’s substitutions in the loss to Bournemouth during April. Silvestre says the issues between player and manager should have stayed behind closed doors.
“These type of things should stay between the player and the club. That’s the first thing.”
“If you talk about it you add negative communication around the club and the squad. They don’t need that. They need positivity.”
“Things like that can happen but if they stay private, that would be smarter and more beneficial to the club.”
Dalot, Garnacho and Mainoo are the few United positives
After showing so much promise in ten Hag’s season which saw a Carabao Cup win and a top four finish which guaranteed Champions League for United. However, this season has been a disaster for United which could end without European football in the worst case scenario. Silvestre highlights Diogo Dalot, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo as one of the few bright spots for United fans.
“It is hard to find positives for Man Utd this season.”
“First of all you have to find collective achievements and right now, unless they beat City in the final, it’s going to be difficult. Let’s see where they end up in the league.”
“But for positives, you probably have to go to individual performances. Dalot’s season has been very consistent. He’s probably been the best player for the team along with Garnacho.”
“Kobbie’s emergence has been very very positive. Højlund finally scoring.”
“Very minimal positives, unfortunately.”
