Mikael Silvestre: Ruud van Nistelrooy can become a Premier League manager

Here at bettingexpert, Devang Prasad sat down with former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre where they were able to take a brief break from everything Euro 2024 to discuss the news that Ruud van Nistelrooy could be set to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching team if reports are to be believed.
van Nistelrooy can use time at United to become a Premier League manager
Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to return to Manchester United to be part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching team after rejecting the chance to manage Burnley following their return to the Championship. van Nistelrooy is a United great having enjoyed a fine period at the club and is well renowned and adored for his goalscoring antics. But will he be a good addition to ten Hag’s backroom staff and can van Nistelrooy become a PL manager in the future?
“Ruud had a good campaign with PSV. I think he’s suited to being a manager like most of my former teammates who are in management.”
“Ruud started his trade with the youth in PSV and gradually went to the top. I think he’s got enough experience to make the jump if an opportunity was offered.”
Extra revenue through selling stadium rights a positive thing for United
Meanwhile, United new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is to be looking at selling the naming rights to a revamped Old Trafford or a newly constructed stadium, Commercially it’s a move that makes sense but could anger loyal club fans, considering the stadium’s history. Whilst Silvestre understands where certain pockets of the united fans would be resistant, he sees the potential for extra funding as positive for the club.
“I think nowadays extra funding will be good especially if you go into building a new stadium. It doesn’t change the fact that you can still call it Old Trafford and it will be Old Trafford anyhow.”
“Naming is a business decision so it takes nothing away from the Old Trafford name. It’s difficult to resist if it means a lot more revenue for the club.”
“When he first took over he said ‘we will consult the fans’. The fans should be consulted on this. It’s a key step towards whether you take the decision to do it or not.”
