Serie A Best Bets: Sunday March 20th
This weekend is the last set of fixtures before Serie A pauses for the final international break of the season. I’ve got best bets for three of Sunday’s games, which feature teams battling at both ends of the table.

- Empoli vs Verona: Verona over 1.5 goals at 2.10
- Bologna vs Atalanta: No on Both Teams to Score at 2.05

Venezia vs Sampdoria Best Bet
Sun, March 20th, 11:30 (UK Time)
On Sunday morning, two of the division’s most out-of-form teams face each other in a huge game at the bottom of Serie A. Venezia approach this crucial six-pointer having won just one of their last 15 league games, whilst Sampdoria are on a terrible run of eight defeats in 10 matches.
Despite their poor form, Sampdoria have the best attacking record of all the sides currently positioned in the bottom six of Serie A. However, this offensive quality hasn’t always been evident on the road. Samp have scored just once in their last five away matches, and only 38% of their 37 goals have come away from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Fortunately for Marco Giampaolo and his team, they visit a ground where Venezia have kept just one clean sheet and have conceded an average of two goals per game this season.
For all Venezia’s defensive woes, they have an impressive knack of finding the net on home turf. Paolo Zanetti’s men have scored in 11 of their 14 home fixtures, with the three blanks coming against Milan, Napoli and Inter. As a result, 71% of games at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo have seen both teams score.
Given that both these teams are so poor defensively, but capable going forward, I like the 2.20 price on offer for both teams to score and there to be over 2.5 goals in the game.
- Selection: BTTS and over 2.5 goals
- Best Odds: 2.20 (bet365)
- Stakes: 7/10
More Venezia vs Sampdoria Tips
Empoli vs Verona Best Bet
Sun, March 20th, 14:00 (UK Time)
Empoli’s winless run stretched to 12 Serie A matches following last weekend’s narrow away defeat to Milan. Since their last home victory, way back in December, Empoli have lost four of the last five matches at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, conceding 17 goals in the process.
Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side has the worst defensive record at home in Serie A. Alarmingly, they have allowed the opposition at least two goals in 11 of their 14 home fixtures. It doesn’t get any easier for Andreazzoli and his players, as this weekend they face a Verona side that has been in excellent goalscoring form since the turn of the year.
Verona have scored 20 goals in their 10 games so far in 2022, which is obviously an average of two goals per game; only Sassuolo have scored more so far this calendar year.
Across the whole season, Verona have managed to score two or more goals away from home on seven occasions, including against the stingy home defences of Milan and Roma.
You can therefore imagine my surprise to see the away side can be backed at odds-against to achieve the same feat on Sunday afternoon against an Empoli side that love shipping goals at home.
- Selection: Verona over 1.5 goals
- Best Odds: 2.15 (BetVictor)
- Stakes: 10/10
Bologna vs Atalanta Best Bet
Sun, March 20th, 19:45 (UK Time)
Bologna’s 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina last Sunday was the fifth time in the last eight games they have failed to find the net. The ‘Rossoblu’ have really struggled for goals since the Winter Break, scoring just five times so far in 2022.
The lack of goals has been more of an issue at home during this period, with Bologna blanking in four of their last five games at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Despite scoring for fun in the Europa League knockout stages, Atalanta are suffering from similar issues domestically as of late. This is particularly the case away from the Gewiss Stadium, where Gian Paolo Gasperini’s men have uncharacteristically failed to score in four of their last five Serie A matches.
With both teams struggling for goals, and not exactly leaking them at the other end of the field, you would think the likelihood of both teams scoring would decrease. Apparently, some bookies don’t share the same viewpoint, pricing BTTS as low as 1.60, which is why I think there is serious value in the “BTTS – No” market.
The fact that both teams have scored in just five of Bologna’s 14 home games this season adds strength to the above argument.
- Selection: Both teams to score – No
- Best Odds: 2.25 (BetVictor)
- Stakes: 7/10
What is a Serie A Acca?
A Serie A acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A Serie A acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create Serie A accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the Serie A acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
