Chelsea vs Everton: The Data Points to Throws
England, Premier League, Saturday, 26th April, 15:00 (UK)
Chelsea are in the hunt for a Champions League place. They came from behind to win away at Fulham last weekend and are now 6th in the Premier League. Enzo Maresca’s side were involved in the title race before a disastrous Christmas period, but now a top-five finish would be viewed as a massive success.
David Moyes suffered just his third league defeat in his second stint in charge of Everton when his team were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City last weekend. An injury to James Tarkowski is a massive blow for the Toffees, but there is no jeopardy in their remaining matches.
The Blues aim to control possession for long periods, and the throw-in numbers in their matches have been low as a result. Chelsea are picking up an average of 15.55 throws per league game, but they should get more here. They have had 18 or more throws in nine of their last 10 games against Everton, with an average of 21.
Everton’s matches have seen the second most throws in the division, with an average of 36.91. Our bet has landed in all six of their away matches since the change of manager.
- Selection: Over 17.5 Throws For Chelsea (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Brighton vs West Ham: The Seagulls Put Pressure on Opposition Defenders
England, Premier League, Saturday, 26th April, 15:00 (UK)
Brighton need to put a winning streak together if they are to end up in a European place. Fabian Hurzeler enjoyed a fantastic first half of the season, but a run of six competitive matches without a win has put the team on the back foot with just a few weeks remaining. The Seagulls suffered a 4-2 defeat against Brentford last weekend.
Graham Potter has been unable to turn West Ham’s fortunes around. His tactical changes have gone some way towards correcting the defensive issues that plagued the team during Julen Lopetegui’s tenure. However, the team are now struggling to put the ball in the net.
The Seagulls have been more willing to run with the ball under Hurzeler and are forcing an average of 20.12 tackles per game, the second most in the league behind only Tottenham. When they faced Brentford last weekend, all four of the Bees’ defenders who started made a tackle.
We’ve singled out Jean-Clair Todibo as the man to make a tackle here. He features at right centre-back in both a back three and four for West Ham and makes tackles in both roles. Todibo has made at least one tackle in his last five appearances with an average of 2.6 per game. He came off the bench and made a tackle in the reverse fixture against Brighton and should start here.
- Selection: Over 0.5 Tackles For Jean-Clair Todibo (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.72
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Newcastle vs Ipswich: Plenty of Attempts at St. James’s Park
England, Premier League, Saturday, 26th April, 15:00 (UK)
Newcastle suffered a setback in their quest to make it into the top five when they lost against Aston Villa last weekend, but they are currently in the Champions League places. BETSiE is predicting that they can maintain their lead over Chelsea and Villa in the weeks to come. However, Eddie Howe knows that dropped points against Ipswich would spell trouble.
The Tractor Boys will be relegated from the Premier League with a defeat here. It was always going to be a tough ask for them to remain in the top flight after back-to-back promotions, but Kieran McKenna will be disappointed by the fact they haven’t put up a fight.
The Magpies’ home matches in the league have seen an average of 28.04 shots, comfortably above the line of 25.5 set by the bookmakers. They face a fragile team that have nothing to lose here, so we should see plenty of attempts.
There have been 26 shots or more in Ipswich’s last four league games. This bet has also won in four of their last five away matches, with those seeing an average of 33.2. Their opponents get the lion’s share of the shots, but with relegation looming, McKenna’s men should let fly.
- Selection: Over 25.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.72
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Southampton vs Fulham: The Saints Playing for Pride
England, Premier League, Saturday, 26th April, 15:00 (UK)
Southampton’s fate was sealed a while ago. They are bottom and need a point in the remaining five games to avoid equalling Derby’s worst ever Premier League points tally. The Saints managed to secure a 1-1 draw away at West Ham last weekend and will carry some level of confidence into this one.
Fulham are chasing European football. They have established themselves in the top flight under Marco Silva in recent seasons. The Cottagers are now 9th in the table and can venture back into Europe for the first time since 2010.
The Saints looked a little more dangerous with Simon Rusk at the helm against West Ham. Ivan Juric was a disastrous appointment for Southampton, but their interim manager seemed to inspire something as they racked up 15 shots last weekend. Nine shots in their first home match under Rusk looks a solid bet.
The Cottagers have conceded nine shots or more in their last seven away matches across all competitions, which includes an away match against Wigan. The opposition are averaging 13 attempts per game in those matches.
- Selection: Over 8.5 Shots For Southampton (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.72
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Bournemouth vs Manchester United: Declining Shot Numbers
England, Premier League, Sunday, 27th April, 14:00 (UK)
Bournemouth are currently 8th in the league, which could be enough to secure a European place. The Cherries have been excellent this season. They are 3rd in the xPTS (expected points) table, suggesting they could be aiming for Champions League qualification if they had been a little more clinical in front of goal.
Manchester United have nothing to play for in the league. Ruben Amorim’s sole focus is delivering silverware in the form of the Europa League. The Red Devils are guaranteed to finish the campaign with their lowest-ever Premier League points tally. A win at Bournemouth would be a surprise.
The shot numbers have dipped in Bournemouth’s recent league outings and we are backing that trend to continue when they face United. The Cherries’ matches have seen the most shots in the division with an average of 28.91, but their last three have seen 21.33 on average, with our bet landing in all three.
Amorim’s United team are a lot slower when they have the ball than under Erik Ten Hag. His 22 league matches in charge have seen an average of 24.12 shots per game. There were just 16 attempts when they faced Wolves last weekend.
- Selection: Under 27.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.72
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Liverpool vs Tottenham: Similar Numbers in Fourth Meeting of the Season
England, Premier League, Sunday, 27th April, 16:30 (UK)
Liverpool can clinch the Premier League title with a win this weekend. Arne Slot’s side have had one hand on the trophy for quite some time. The Dutchman will have enjoyed his first season in England, but finishing on a positive note is important. Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk extending their contracts is more good news for the Reds. Can they build on this success?
Tottenham are enduring a torrid season. They are languishing in 16th place and like Manchester United, the Europa League is their only hope of salvation. Ange Postecoglou could be departing the club in the summer, so there are uncertain times ahead for Spurs.
There have been 39 tackles or more in five of the last six head-to-heads between these sides. Three of those matches have taken place this season, with the teams meeting in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. Those encounters saw 40, 41 and 27 tackles.
- Selection: Over 38.5 Tackles In The Match (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.90
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
