Mohamed Salah scored and assisted in the 2-2 draw at Villa Park midweek. The Egyptian is enjoying the best season of his career and looks set to break the Premier League record for goal contributions.

Liverpool face Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s defence has struggled of late so backing Salah to find the net appeals.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Market Odds
Mohamed Salah To Score 2.40
Mohamed Salah To Assist 3.75

Salah’s Stunning Numbers

Mohamed Salah has now scored 24 goals and assisted a further 15 in 26 league matches. The current record for goal contributions in the Premier League is 47, held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. If Salah continues at the current rate, he will finish the season with 57 goal contributions, dwarfing the previous record.

Arne Slot took over a talented squad but his tactical setup has afforded Salah more freedom in the final third. The wide man doesn’t have the same level of responsibility in the press as his teammates and is free to drift around. Salah is always an outlet in attack. He averages 9.27 touches in the opposition box and 12.74 progressive passes received per 90 in the past 12 months. Mo also ranks in the top 1% compared with attacking midfielders/wingers across Europe’s top five leagues in the past 12 months for non-penalty xG and assists.

Salah has directly contributed to 65% of Liverpool’s goals in the Premier League. He must continue to perform if Slot’s men are to fend off a late challenge from Arsenal.

City Have Been Unable to Keep Salah at Bay

It’s a trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City up next for Liverpool. The league leaders are the favourites and Salah comes into this one in red-hot form. The Egyptian has scored in his last seven competitive matches. He will come up against a Manchester City side that were powerless to resist Kylian Mbappe at the Santiago Bernabeu midweek and will be licking his lips at the prospect. While City are capable of getting a result, keeping Salah at bay appears unlikely.  He has scored in five of his last six matches against Manchester City.

Salah did manage to assist a goal in the only recent outing against City where he failed to find the net. He has also earned an assist in his last two Premier League matches on the road. Mo’s odds for an assist are bigger than his goal odds, which is enough to tempt us in here.
