Poland vs Estonia Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
Scott Thornton brings you his Poland vs Estonia prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview as the final European Championship qualifiers get underway. This will be Fernando Santos’ fifth game as Poland boss. They are the overwhelming favourites for this game but will want his players to build momentum ahead of a potential playoff final to secure their place in this summer’s tournament.
Estonia had an easier path to this stage thanks to their lower ranking in the UEFA Nations League but they will be determined to give a good account of themselves.
Prediction: Poland 3-0 Estonia

Poland vs Estonia Prediction 1: Poland to Record Comfortable Win
European Championship Qualifiers, Thursday, March 21st, 19:45 (UK)
Poland finished four points behind Albania and the Czech Republic in their qualifying group but they still have a chance to make it to this summer’s European Championships. Estonia are the first hurdle in front of them in the playoff stage of qualifying. The teams earned the right to be here thanks to their performances in the UEFA Nations League but Poland are strong favourites.
Fernando Santos will want his side to get the job done in the home leg so we are backing Poland -2 on the Asian handicap market. This means our stake is returned if the home side only manages to win the match by a two-goal margin. They averaged just 1.25 goals per game in the qualifying group but they have a resurgent Robert Lewandowski in their ranks ahead of this match.
Estonia, on the other hand, averaged just 0.25 goals per qualifying match and conceded an average of 2.75. Only Liechtenstein, San Marino, Cyprus and Gibraltar conceded more goals per game. The average goals conceded per team was just 1.44 so expect Estonia’s defensive woes to continue here.
- Poland vs Estonia Prediction 1: Poland -2 Asian Handicap
- Best Odds: 2.05
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Poland vs Estonia Prediction 2: Estonia Lack Bite
Estonia are the minnows at this stage. They picked up all 12 points available to them in the UEFA Nations League but it’s important to note the quality of their opposition. Their group consisted of Malta and San Marino so they look set to struggle against a Poland side that have plenty of quality to call upon.
The visitors are priced at 17.00 on bet365’s 1X2 market. As you’d imagine, they have a miserable scoring record when they go off at long odds. In their last ten matches where they have been priced at odds of 9.50 or greater, they are averaging just 0.2 goals per game so we are betting on Poland to win and keep a clean sheet in this match. Estonia have failed to score in their last two competitive matches on the road.
Poland conceded an average of 1.25 goals in their qualifying group, which was below the average. Fernando Santos has also earned a reputation for putting the defensive side of the game first.

- Best Odds: 1.61

Poland vs Estonia Prediction 3: Quality Gap Difficult to Bridge
Poland are highly-fancied and it will want to avoid extra time in this one. There is a short turnaround for a potential final so a greater rest period could make all the difference. Expect the home side to make a fast start and assert themselves. We can back Poland to carry a lead into the break and go on to win the game at odds of 1.66 with bet365 and it looks a good bet.
Since Fernando Santos took charge, Poland have led three of their four matches at half-time. They have conceded just one goal in those games and the clash with Estonia is set to be the shortest price they have been on the 1X2 market.
Estonia have also found themselves behind at half-time in their last six competitive matches. They have failed to score in any of those first halves, whereas their opponents have scored two on average. The signs point to Poland taking an early lead and the visitors will struggle to fight their way back into the contest thereon.
- Poland vs Estonia Prediction 3: Poland Half Time/Full time
- Best Odds: 1.66
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 9/10

Poland vs Estonia Team News and Possible Lineups: Lewandowski to Star
Fernando Santos’ tenure as Poland boss is still in its infancy. He is a man with a point to prove after being sacked by Portugal and he will be delighted that there are no major injury concerns ahead of this crucial international break. Santos has already won the European Championships but getting there is his first challenge in his new role.
Estonia have never reached a major tournament. They have had success in the Baltic Cup, which they contest with Latvia and Lithuania but Poland are a step up in class. The majority of their players ply their trade in lesser-known European leagues.
Poland possible starting lineup: Szczesny; Bednarek, Nochniewicz, Kiwior; Zalewski, Szymanski, Piotrowski, Slisz, Frankowski; Swiderski, Lewandowski
Estonia possible starting lineup: Vallner; Mihhailov, Vaher, Baranov, Lukka, Hussar; Miller, Palumets, Vassiljev; Zenjov, Sillanaa
