The Gareth Southgate to leave odds have shortened overnight after that dismal 4-0 defeat to Hungary. The next England manager odds make for interesting reading.

Graham Potter, Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino are amongst the favourites to take the post as the pressure mounts on Southgate.

Why Do Some England Fans Want to Get Rid of Gareth Southgate?

The pressure is mounting on Gareth Southgate ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Qatar. It’s two points from four matches for them in the Nations League. They’ve scored just once from their matches against Germany, Italy and two fixtures with Hungary. Harry Kane got that via a penalty.

They hosted Hungary at Molineux on Tuesday. It was England’s first home match with fans outside of Wembley for three years. It turned out to be their heaviest home defeat since 1928.

Hungary hadn’t won away at England since the Match of the Century – a 6-3 win for Hungary’s Golden Team back in 1953. That was a seminal moment in the history of English football and led to tremendous change in tactics and training.

There were echoes of the same arrogance and tactical naivete at Molineux on Tuesday evening. Rolland Sallai scored one in either half for the visitors before things really unravelled for England. Zsolt Nagy added a third with ten minutes to go before John Stones was sent off for the hosts. Daniel Gazdag made it 4-0 with a minute left to play to complete the rout.

What Are The Odds For Gareth Southgate To Leave England?

The Gareth Southgate to leave odds have shortened drastically overnight. Southgate has been in charge of England since 2016. He took the reins in the aftermath of that disastrous Euro 2016 exit to Iceland.

Things have improved drastically for the Three Lions under the former Middlesbrough boss. He led England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018 and finished runners-up at Euro 2020. England also finished 3rd in the 2018-19 Nations League and qualified for the 2022 World Cup with a record of eight wins from 10 matches.

Recent performances and last night’s 4-0 defeat to Hungary have caused a massive drop in the odds for Southgate to leave. It’s now 3.50 for Southgate to leave his post as England boss before England’s first match at the 2022 World Cup. It’s 17.00 for the Three Lions to fail to win all of their matches.

Next England Manager Odds

The next England manager odds are as follows:

  • Graham Potter – 4.33
  • Eddie Howe – 7.00
  • Mauricio Pochettino – 9.00
  • Frank Lampard – 11.00
  • Steven Gerrard 12.00

Graham Potter England Manager Odds

Brighton boss Graham Potter is the favourite to take the reins. The 47-year-old spent much of his club in the lower leagues but made one appearance for the England Under-21s. He managed the Swedish side Ostersund and Swansea City before moving to Brighton.

Potter has made Brighton an established Premier League side full of quality players and playing attractive football. It’s uncertain if this long-term approach would lend itself to international management but he’s the favourite for the job.

Graham Potter England Manager Odds: 4.33

Eddie Howe England Manager Odds

Formerly of Bournemouth, Eddie Howe had proven his coaching ability at Newcastle in the last six months. He guided a struggling Newcastle side to an impressive 11th-placed finish with 13 wins from 28 matches. Like Potter, Howe only represented England at Under-21 level.

Eddie Howe England Manager Odds: 7.00

Mauricio Pochettino England Manager Odds

By far the most established name on the list, Mauricio Pochettino would represent a coup for the English FA. Formerly of Southampton and Tottenham, the Argentinean is currently at Paris Saint-Germain but it’s highly unlikely he will remain there. A respected player and manager, Pochettino is a big name and would be only the third non-British man to coach the England national team.

Mauricio Pochettino England Manager Odds: 9.00

Frank Lampard England Manager Odds

Frank Lampard scored 29 goals in 106 appearances for England as a player and has managed Derby and Chelsea from the dugout. Now of Everton, Lampard’s managerial stock has fallen during his time at Goodison Park. Still, he is amongst the favourites to take over the England National Team when the time comes.

Frank Lampard England Manager Odds: 11.00

Steven Gerrard England Manager Odds

Steven Gerrard completes the top five likeliest next England managers according to the bookies. The former Liverpool and England midfielder did well with Rangers and has kept Aston Villa going steady.

Steven Gerrard England Manager Odds: 12.00
