New York Red Bulls vs Inter Miami Prediction 1: The City Of Goals

America, MLS, Saturday, March 23rd, 18:00 (UK)

Despite New York Red Bulls being defensively resolute at home last season and their games at the RedBull Arena seeing an average of just 2.23 goals per game last season, this season they look to be more attacking.

Since their opening day 0-0 draw at Nashville, all three Red Bull games have seen at least three goals, with new manager Sandro Schwarz implementing his attacking style of play already.

The 45-year-old oversaw a disastrous campaign at Hertha Berlin last season, with Die Atle Dame suffering relegation. In the process, they conceded 69 goals – the third most in the league. Hertha also scored 42 goals, with their games averaging 3.2 goals.

In his four games in the dugout in America, it’s clear Schwarz wants his side playing on the front foot, with Emil Forsberg, in particular, given extra attacking freedom.

Inter Miami had a disastrous league campaign, finishing 27th overall in the Supporters Shield. However, the arrival of Lionel Messi halfway into the season ignited spirits, leading to them winning the inaugural League Cup.

Miami conceded 54 goals in a season riddled with defensive fragility. This has continued this season, with Gerardo Martino’s side conceding five in five league games and seven in their last four. However, they have also scored 13 in five league games and 18 in seven in all competitions.

While only 3/5 of Inter Miami league games have seen over 2.5 goals, the other two ended on two goals, with Martino’s side somehow surviving an LA Galaxy onslaught and a Riqui Puig missed penalty to draw 1-1.

Both sides have shown attacking intent thus far this season and we should be in for an entertaining game.

  • New York Red Bulls vs Inter Miami Prediction 1: Over 2.75 Goal Line
  • Best Odds: 2.02
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

New York Red Bulls vs Inter Miami Prediction 2: Giddy Gressel

Inter Miami are a team filled with superstars such as Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and of course Lionel Messi. However, it is the industrious and tenacious players such as Diego Gomez and Julian Gressel who go under the radar.

Gressel in particular is a utility player, with the 30-year-old filling in at full back and on the wing, on top of his natural central midfield position.

In his five starts this season, Gressel has hit two shots three times. The exceptions were the 1-1 draw at LA Galaxy in which Miami were on the back foot the whole game and a game in which Miami rotated heavily.

With Lionel Messi injured, Gressel could play in the front three as he did in the victory over DC United. If this is the case, his shot odds present real value.

  • New York Red Bulls vs Inter Miami Prediction 2: Julian Gressel Over 1.5 Shots
  • Best Odds: 2,75
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

New York Red Bulls vs Inter Miami Prediction 3: Suarez Shining

Luis Suarez joined the Galactico revolution at Inter Miami at the start of the season and has enjoyed life thus far on the Florida coast. The controversial Uruguayan striker has taken to life in Miami well, scoring six goals in just 440 minutes of football for an average of a goal every 73 minutes.

At the age of 37, he may struggle to play too regularly due to the demands of the Concacaf Champions Cup, but he will benefit from a prolonged rest after only playing 28 minutes last weekend against DC United. In his limited minutes, Suarez scored a brace to secure the 3-1 win for his side.

Interestingly, Suarez has only had six shots in the league, with two of these being saved and the other four resulting in a goal. In a match I expect plenty of goals in, Suarez should be at the forefront of this.

  • New York Red Bulls vs Inter Miami Prediction 3: Luis Suarez to Score
  • Best Odds: 2.30
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10
