More Struggles at Manchester United Amidst Relegation Form

Manchester United’s woes continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham last weekend and they look set for more misery.
Ruben Amorim has been unable to turn the ship around after taking over from Erik Ten Hag in November. The Red Devils are now in relegation form so we outline why you should continue to bet against them in the Premier League.

Attacking Woes Compounded by Amad’s Absence
Manchester United have progressed to the last 16 of the FA Cup and Europa League, but their league form leaves a lot to be desired. They have won just four of their 14 Premier League games under Ruben Amorim. The dismal run means they have 29 points after 25 matches and sit in 15th place. United are 12 points clear of the relegation zone and will be grateful that the newly-promoted sides have struggled. The Red Devils have lost 12 league matches so far, the most they have at this stage of the season since 1973/74. United were relegated in that campaign and things could get a little close for comfort this term.
The decision to stick by Erik Ten Hag following last season’s FA Cup triumph has backfired in spectacular fashion. The club backed the Dutchman with hefty summer spending and now Ruben Amorim is struggling to get this group to adapt to his 3-4-3 formation. The team are set to limp on until the end of the campaign with a squad overhaul in the transfer window on the horizon.
United scored an average of 1.50 goals per game in the Premier League last season, below the average of 1.64. However, this number has dropped drastically since then. This campaign has seen the Red Devils score an average of 1.12 goals per game, the fifth-fewest in the division. The team have failed to score in six of their 14 league games with Amorim at the helm and there are no signs of positive change. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are both struggling in front of goal, netting five league goals between them. Amad Diallo, who has been the standout attacker under the new manager, has also been ruled out for the remainder of the season. It’s difficult to see where the goals are going to come from with 13 games remaining.
Since Amorim took charge, the Red Devils are averaging a point per game. Continuing at this rate would see them finish on 43 points. BETSiE predicts that Manchester United will finish the season with 46.8 points, leaving them 14th. That would be their worst-ever finish to a Premier League season by some distance.
With United’s attack struggling and injuries taking hold, opposing the Red Devils is certainly the way to go in the weeks to come. Amorim needs a minor miracle as he hopes to see some cutting edge from this disjointed attack.
Tough Tests Against Other Teams in the Bottom Half
David Moyes, the man who was chosen to replace Sir Alex Ferguson way back in 2013, is the man in the dugout against Manchester United this weekend. Moyes has enjoyed a triumphant return to Goodison Park. The team have picked up 13 points from the six league matches since the managerial change and now Amorim’s men are in the firing line.
Everton have a miserable recent record against Manchester United. They have lost the last six competitive meetings between the sides and won just one of the last 14. However, they are in inspired form of late and this is the perfect opportunity to set the record straight. Moyes masterminded a home win over United as West Ham boss last season and will look to do the same here. The Toffees are scoring an average of two goals per league game in the Scotsman’s second stint in charge. That should be enough to sink a misfiring Manchester United.
After their visit to Goodison, Amorim’s side host Ipswich. Like United, the Tractor Boys are also struggling to find the net this season. They have the lowest xG in the Premier League with 23 and have lived up to that expectation by netting 23 goals. With neither attack firing on all cylinders, betting against goals is the best approach for this one.
Under 2.5 goals landed when Ipswich squared off against Manchester United earlier in the season, which was Amorim’s first game in charge. Marcus Rashford scored a very early goal for the Red Devils on that occasion but Kieran McKenna’s team had the better chances.
