Maignan on Chelsea’s Radar
According to Metro, One of the top names on Chelsea’s wishlist was Mike Maignan, Serie A’s highly-rated French goalkeeper. Widely regarded as one of the best in the world, Maignan has been instrumental for Milan since joining from Lille in 2021. His form between the sticks hasn’t gone unnoticed, and according to Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea made multiple attempts to bring the 29-year-old to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.
Milan’s Price Tag Too High
However, Milan’s hefty price tag for Maignan ultimately proved to be a stumbling block. The Rossoneri reportedly demanded a sum close to €80 million (£69m) for the French international, a figure that discouraged Chelsea from pushing harder. Bayern Munich, who were also eyeing the player, similarly balked at the price.
Maignan, for his part, made it clear he was content at Milan, and the Italian giants are now looking to secure his future with a new contract extension. The current deal runs until the summer of 2026, but discussions are ongoing to tie him down further.
What Next for Maignan and Chelsea?
Should negotiations with Milan fail to result in a new deal, Maignan’s availability could once again become a hot topic in upcoming transfer windows. For now, though, he remains firmly rooted at San Siro, with 116 appearances and 45 clean sheets to his name.
