Manchester United’s struggles continue, as they endured another crushing 3-0 defeat, this time at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. The loss followed an equally embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, leaving fans and pundits questioning the direction of the club under Erik ten Hag’s leadership. Former United captain Gary Neville didn’t hold back when discussing the team’s dismal display. Can Manchester United stop their losing streak? Check out our Manchester United vs Aston Villa betting tips and predictions to get the best odds.

Gary Neville’s Frustration After United’s Latest Loss

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville described the team’s performance as one of the worst he’s witnessed during Ten Hag’s tenure.

“It was disgusting in terms of effort and quality. One of the worst performances I’ve seen under Ten Hag’s leadership,” Neville remarked.

The former captain was particularly critical of the first-half performance, noting that Manchester United fans were directing their frustrations at the referee. However, Neville was quick to point out that officiating wasn’t the real issue—lack of effort and quality from United was the true cause of their downfall.

Jamie Redknapp Warns of Managerial Change

Jamie Redknapp, also a Sky Sports pundit, added fuel to the fire, suggesting that such lacklustre performances often lead to managerial sackings.

“I’ve seen many games after which managers were sacked. These kinds of displays make the club seek a new manager,” Redknapp warned.

While Erik ten Hag managed to survive a challenging summer, the mounting pressure on the Dutchman is palpable. Bruno Fernandes’s ejection during the Tottenham match only added to the team’s woes, leading to speculation over Ten Hag’s future.

Redknapp further explained that when a club begins actively searching for a new manager, the current one quickly loses the dressing room.

“Players know you’re no longer the man to lead them. You can’t continue coaching the team when the club is looking for someone else.”

Rio Ferdinand’s Blunt Assessment

Another former United star, Rio Ferdinand, echoed the sentiments of his colleagues. He was even more scathing in his analysis of Manchester United’s performance.

“It was a pathetic performance. No fight, no plan, no heart,” Ferdinand said bluntly.

Having been part of many high-stakes derbies at Old Trafford, Ferdinand didn’t hide his higher expectations for the current squad. He emphasised that players should be fighting for the badge and that dressing room confrontations were necessary after such a poor showing.

“There should be sparks flying in the locker room. I hope someone was yelling, putting someone up against the wall. I want to witness the fight; that’s the least I expect.”
