Ancelotti on Real Madrid’s Performance
Speaking after the match, Carlo Ancelotti maintained a composed outlook, focusing on the positives of securing a point in a challenging derby.
“It was an evenly matched game where both teams primarily focused on not conceding a goal,” he explained.
Real Madrid looked to have done enough when Militão found the back of the net, but Correa’s late goal dashed their hopes of victory. Despite this, Ancelotti emphasized the importance of appreciating the point, especially against a strong Atletico Madrid side.
“This draw is different because we were so close to winning. But it’s important to value the point. Our opponents were very strong,” said Ancelotti.
The Real Madrid boss was also clear that, although the draw was frustrating, the team remains focused on their broader goals, especially in the Champions League.
Ancelotti Defends Referee and Substitutions
The game was briefly halted when referee Busquets Ferrera stopped play due to objects being thrown onto the pitch. Ancelotti supported the referee’s decision to pause the match, stating:
“The referee made the right call. He followed the rules and protocols.”
As for his in-game decisions, Ancelotti had no regrets about his substitutions or defensive strategy.
“It’s natural to defend when you’re leading. The opponent executed their play perfectly to score,” he remarked.
Focus Shifts to the Champions League
While the draw reduced Real Madrid’s gap to the league leaders, Ancelotti stressed the importance of looking ahead. With key players like Thibaut Courtois picking up minor injuries, he confirmed that the goalkeeper would undergo further assessment.
“We will keep fighting; we’re not desperate. I believe this point could be crucial in the future,” he added, underlining the team’s mindset ahead of their Champions League campaign.
