How To Bet On Euro 2021 1X2 Odds

How To Bet On Euro 2021 1X2 Odds
Nikola Krstic/Alamy Live News

Unlike most sports, there are three outcomes in a football match. Either team can win the match or the match can end in a draw. The betting market for betting on either of these outcomes is known as 1X2 betting.

What are Euro 1X2 odds?

With 1X2 odds you can bet on either team to win or the draw. So that’s either Team A (1) or Team B (2) or the Draw (X).

You will see 1X2 odds displayed throughout Euro 2021 like this:

Image and odds from bet365 as at 7th June 2021

So in this example we see:

  • England are at odds of 1.36 to win the match.
  • Scotland are at odds of 9.50 to win the match.
  • Drawn match is at odds of 4.50.

So if we bet £10 on England to win the match and they do, we would receive £13.60 from our bookmaker, the £10 of our stake and the profit of £3.60.

If we bet £10 on Scotland to win and they do, we would receive £95 from our bookmaker, the £10 of our stake and the profit of £85.

Lastly, if we bet £10 on the Draw and the match ends in a draw, we would receive £45.0 from our bookmaker, the £10 of our stake and the profit of £35.0.

What Euro 1X2 Odds Should I Bet On?

Smart betting is all about betting on value. A value bet is a bet where the chances of the bet winning are greater than the odds being offered.

Is betting on England to win the match a value bet?

To determine what the bookmakers think, simply apply the following formula:

1 / England odds

So…

1 / 1.36 = 0.7353

Applying this formula we see the bookmakers believe England winning is a 73.53% chance of winning the match.

If after you have done your research and analysis, you believe that England’s chances of beating Scotland are greater than 73.53%, then you have a value bet opportunity.

So if you believe England’s chances of winning the match are for example, 80% you should bet on England.

If however you believe England’s chances are lower than 73.53%, you should look to bet on either the draw or Scotland to win, or perhaps consider betting on another betting market, such as Asian handicaps or Double Chance.

Does Extra Time Count?

Keep in mind that even though matches in the knockout stage can be determined after extra time if the match is drawn at the end of regulation time plus added time, all 1X2 bets are determined by the result at the end of regulation time.

So if you bet on England to win and they win the match in extra time or following a penalty shootout, your 1X2 bet on England will not be a winning bet. It will only be a winning bet if England wins the match in regulation time.

Some bookmakers do however offer you the chance to bet on teams to win regardless of whether they win in regulation time or extra time. If this is your preference, be sure to find a bookmaker offering this option.
