Ranking the most vulgar Premier League fan bases on Instagram
Football, bloody hell!
A game day isn’t really a game day if the fans in the stands don’t let a few swear words out. All things considered, it’s highly possible that on a game day, the football players are the third most mentioned people in the stands – their family members come in first and second.
Funnily enough, the digital world is full of foul-mouthed fans and we conducted a study to find out which club’s fans are the most vulgar on Instagram.
Bettingexpert.com looked at five random posts from all Premier League clubs and ran the comments through an automation tool that gave the percentage of swear words used. We then collated this data to rank the most vulgar fanbase on Instagram.
Villans, for a reason
Villa Park can be an intimidating venue for teams, especially because of the raucous crowd and that translates into the digital space as well.
From our research, Aston Villa fans were the most vulgar, with 17 percent of comments containing swear words The most common swear word used for the Villans was f###, followed by s###.
Don’t know what the Villa fans are frustrated about, if we’re being completely honest. They’ve got a promising manager and a promising squad who are doing well. Maybe, it’s just Birmingham vibes that we get to see on Instagram.
Watford fans were the second most-vulgar with 15 percent of vulgar comments. ‘The f###’ is the favoured swear expression of the Hornets’ fan base and it definitely makes sense looking at how their season has panned out, as well as seeing Ben Foster thrive better as a YouTuber than as a goalkeeper.
The third-most vulgar fans happened to be Burnley supporters who are just a fraction behind Watford with 14.95 comments containing a swear word. Relegation battles are not fun and the Clarets’ fans are making their frustrations known on Instagram, making prolific use of s### and f###. Or maybe, they’re doing their best Sean Dyche imitations.
The relatively posh fan bases
If relegation battles bring about fans using swear words, being on top of the table apparently makes you sound cultured.
That’s what our analysis says as Man City fans are the least vulgar of the lot with only 1.72 percent of comments containing swear words. The club plays beautiful football, has one of the greatest managers of all time at the helm and are rolling in titles and money. Makes sense that the fans have nothing to complain about.
Or it’s also because like Man City struggles to get fans to fill the ‘Emptyhad’, the club is struggling to get fans to comment on Instagram.
Brighton and Hove Albion, who have punched above their weight under Graham Potter, are the second least-vulgar with 3.2 percent of comments containing a swear word. They are followed by Crystal Palace (4.45 percent) and very interestingly, Arsenal (5.19 percent).
Looks like Arsenal’s upturn in form and fortune calmed their divisive fan base as the season has progressed.
