An eventful five-goal thriller in the first leg sets up this game for another exciting clash. Feyenoord scored twice within 20 minutes only to surrender that lead to Marseille before the break. Shortly after the restart, Feyenoord regained the lead once again and held on to it for the remainder of the game.
A 3-2 lead for Feyenoord coming to Stade Vélodrome could prove a tough task, where Marseille have made it something of a fortress of late. The French side have managed four wins in four of their last five home games. Though they did lose 3-0 to Lyon last time out, it was a completely rotated squad.
Marseille will come into this game knowing that an early goal should put Feyenoord on edge and they will be eager to bounce back from their two consecutive defeats at a crucial time.
For Feyenoord, they are seeking a first European final since winning the UEFA Cup 20 years ago. It is easy to see why the bookies are backing the Dutch side in this one. Feyenoord are enjoying a five-game winning streak, while going unbeaten in their last eight outings.
I am going with the same prediction from last week as I see both teams battling it out to score as many goals as possible once again. With the reverse fixture ending in a 1-1 draw, this game is well placed in the balance ahead of the second leg. It might only be the Conference League but both sides find themselves in a situation where a win could change their fortunes.
In the Serie A, fifth-place Roma are only three points above eighth-place Atalanta, meaning they could yet miss out on European football next season if results don’t go their way. Leicester have it way worse in 11th place and could suffer their lowest league finish in four seasons.
The above means winning the Conference League could be a chance for both sides to seal a European spot for next season regardless of their league position. Bookies have Roma as favourites to win this one but I’m going against that as I fancy going with the Foxes.
