Italy played excellent football in the group stage and finished atop Group A with three victories and no goals conceded. They won all five of their matches at Euro 2021 and scored 11 goals whilst conceding just two.

Their success can be attributed to excellent team chemistry and even better passing. Italy are averaging 87.8% passing accuracy and are very good at creating chances, even against tough defenses. They are a constant threat on goal, and can easily overwhelm teams with their speed and ball control.

The same can’t be said about Spain in this tournament, but they still got the job done and made it to the semi-finals. Spain finished second in Group E with one win and two draws. They almost dropped the ball against Croatia, winning the match in extra time, and were even closer to elimination against a short-handed Switzerland squad, with the match being decided on penalties.

One thing’s for certain, neither team will have the luxury of sitting on the ball, as both Spain and Italy are very good at using the high press to win possessions. Every touch of the ball will have to be deliberate and indecisiveness will be punished.

Italy handled Belgium in the quarter-finals in 90 minutes, but Spain struggled against a resilient Switzerland team, and fatigue may be an issue for Enrique’s side.

Defense wins championships, and Spain are at a disadvantage in that regard. Their defense has fumbled in crucial moments, even conceding two crucial goals in the final 10 minutes of the match against Croatia. Additionally, their offense failed to find the net against Switzerland, and their only score of the match came from an own goal by Denis Zakaria.

Felix Brych is the ref in this one, and he averages 3.16 cards per match for his career. He has been quiet in this tournament, and he looks determined not to draw attention to himself. Bruch dished out 6 yellows in 4 matches, for an average of 1.25 cards per match. This shouldn’t be a very physical match, and both teams will look to avoid bookings in order to have a full squad for the final.

For both teams combined, this is a no-brainer. Both teams have displayed good passing and they regularly combine for more than 9 corners.

In this tournament, Italy have been the better team. They dispatched Belgium in the quarter-finals with a 2:1 result and never really looked in trouble. Their defense and offense are at a very high level and they have what it takes to get the job done. Spain haven’t been convincing. Their defense has shown weaknesses, and their offense failed to score against the Swiss, with their only score being an own goal by Switzerland.

Italy rely on volume, and usually take a lot of shots in every match. They might not go off in this one, but they will certainly get their chances and keep Simon busy.
