Group D is tight heading into the final round of fixtures. England and Croatia didn’t pull away from the rest in Matchday 2 as expected. Both matches finished all square which leaves all four sides with a chance of qualifying.

A win should be enough. A win for Croatia will guarantee at least third spot. They can overtake the Czech Republic into second if they lose to England and overcome the goal difference.

It’s a similar story for Scotland. A win will seal third but they’ll finish second with an England defeat and a goal difference swing. If this match finishes all square then both sides are out.

Scotland have a fine record against Croatia. They’ve met four times in the last two decades and Croatia haven’t won any of them. They last met when qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Scotland won both matches including a 2-0 victory at Hampden Park, the setting for this match.

If this match is anything like their previous meetings then it will be tense. None of the five previous matches between Scotland and Croatia have had more than two goals. There will be some nervy spectators at Hampden Park if either side carries a one-goal lead.

Scotland just need to start taking chances. They’ve created 30 shots in their two matches at Euro 2021. That’s more than any other side in Group D but they’re yet to take any of them.

The Scots may look to exploit one big gap between the sides. Scotland have been vastly superior to Croatia in aerial duels thus far. Steve Clarke’s men have won an average of 25 aerial duels per match at Euro 2021 compared to Croatia’s 10.5. Expect a lot of crosses with Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney overloading the left flank.

Scotland are the outsiders on home soil. Steve Clarke’s men are 2.87 to secure three vital points in their quest for qualification. It’s 3.60 for a draw and Croatia are at 2.37 to get the victory.

It may sound bold but Scotland are good value to win to nil here. Croatia haven’t been the most potent side in front of goal and the Scots have generally looked sturdy.

They shut England out and would have only let in one against the Czech Republic but for that Patrik Schick wonder goal. 1-0 or 2-0 to Scotland seems reasonable given how few goals have been shared between these sides in the past.

Scotland have been amongst the most-disciplined sides in the competition. They received two yellow cards in their opening two matches. Croatia received four but under 5 cards in the match seems fair.

Scotland are certainly capable of creating chances. Converting them has been the problem for Steve Clarke’s men who have been the most creative side in Group D. Southampton’s Che Adams had five shots in the match against England. Over 2.5 shots here looks likely given his ability in the air.
