Crystal Palace vs Brentford Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
Matthew O’Regan has his Crystal Palace vs Brentford prediction preview readied, with the West Londoners travelling south to face their 12th-placed hosts. The sides met in an entertaining clash in August with Brentford running out 2-1 winners. They come into this game in contrasting form, with Crystal Palace unbeaten in six, while Brentford have just one win in their last nine, including a shock home loss to Championship strugglers Plymouth in the FA Cup.
Crystal Palace vs Brentford Prediction: Backing Bryan
England, Premier League, Sunday, January 26th, 14:00(UK)
After ending last season strongly under new gaffer Oliver Glasner, the Crystal Palace faithful believed that this would be the year they would emulate their rivals Brighton and mount a European challenge. However, a slow start to the season looks to have made things tougher for the Eagles.
Palace are now unbeaten in six in all competitions, boasting a draw at home to Chelsea and away to Bournemouth in this run. Glasner’s side seem to be picking up momentum at the right time as they gather pace on the top ten. The most pleasing aspect of the form would be the improvement in a shaky-looking defence, keeping clean sheets in the wins at West Ham and Leicester, as well at home to Stockport County in the FA Cup.
However, they may struggle to contain a Brentford side that have scored 40 goals in 22 games, only failing to score against Liverpool (x2) , at Everton (ten men), Brighton and at home to Nottingham Forest. Thomas Frank’s side have also conceded 39 goals, with their games averaging 3.6 goals.
The deadly duo of Yoanne Wissa and Bryan Mbuemo has been crucial in The Bees’ start to the season, scoring 24 goals between them – 60% of the sides goals.
Despite originally developing a reputation as a pragmatic manager, Thomas Frank has his team playing exciting football – something that may contribute to an exciting game at Selhurst Park.
Mbeumo in particular has shone after back to back nine goal seasons for the Bees. He has already beaten that tally this season with 13 goals – the sixth most in the league. The 25-year-old is averaging 0.59 goals per 90 from 0.31 xG – a sign of how strong his finishing has been. He is averaging 1.91 shots and 1.18 shots on targets per 90 – another statistic that shows how strong his shooting ability has been.
The Cameroonian scored the opener in the reverse fixture and is tempting odds to continue his hot streak in front of goal.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups Prediction: Bees Stung by Injury Crisis
Brentford’s injury crisis has been well documented this season, with Thomas Frank having to use Keane Lewis Potter as a make shift left back and play an out-of-favour Mads Roerslev at right back. However, Rico Henry was back on the bench in the 0-2 loss at home to Liverpool so may be thrusted in from the start.
Aaron Hickey, Ethan Pinnock, Gustavo Gomes, Thiago Rodrigues, Josh Dasilva and Kristoffer Ajer remain out.
Crystal Palace have certainly been more fortunate than their visitors in the injury regard. Only midfield duo Adam Wharton and Jefferson Lerma and young Brazilian Matheus Franca are set to miss Sunday’s game. They were also rocked by the news Trevoh Chalobah had been recalled by Chelsea but Chris Richards should slot in comfortably.
Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Henderson; Munoz, Guehi, Lacroix, Richards, Mitchell; Kamada, Hughes; Eze, Sarr; Mateta
Brentford possible starting lineup:
Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Van Den Berg, Henry; Janelt, Damsgaard, Nørgaard; Lewis-Potter, Wissa, Mbeumo
Match OPTA Stats:
- Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last six home league games against Brentford (W3 D3), winning this exact fixture 3-1 last term.
- Following their 2-1 win on the opening weekend, Brentford are looking to complete their first league double over Crystal Palace since 1955-56 in the Third Division South.
- Crystal Palace have lost just two of their last 14 Premier League matches (W6 D6), having lost three in a row beforehand. From the date of the first game in this 14-match run (27 October), only Liverpool (0) and Arsenal (1) have lost fewer matches.
- Brentford’s 22 Premier League games this season have produced 79 goals (40 for, 39 against), with only Spurs (80) and Wolves (83) seeing their games have more. If they concede in this game, they will be one of only three teams to both score and concede 40+ goals in as few as 23 games in a season, after Spurs in 2007-08 (22 games) and Leeds United in 2020-21 (23 games).
- Crystal Palace have won their last two Premier League matches without conceding a goal, picking up 2-0 away wins at Leicester and West Ham. The Eagles last won three in a row without conceding between February and June 2020 (4).
