PSG vs Real Madrid Best Bet
PSG take on Real Madrid at the Parc Des Princes on Tuesday evening. There are storylines all over the pitch. Lionel Messi will come up against the side he has hurt so often for the first time as a PSG player. We’ll also see Kylian Mbappe take on the team he may well join in the summer. The only disappointment is that we probably won’t see Sergio Ramos come up against the club he spent over 15 years at.
It could still be a cracker of a match. PSG are the big favourites with home advantage. They won 3-0 the last time they hosted Real Madrid in this competition. But that was a long time ago. Los Blancos have won all three of their group matches away from home. They didn’t concede in any of them. Madrid have kept five clean sheets in their last nine away games in Europe.
We’ll see two French strikers in top form. Kylian Mbappe has been involved in more open play sequences resulting in a goal than any other Champions League player since the start of last season. Karim Benzema, meanwhile, has scored in each of his last four Champions League appearances. It’s been four years since a player last scored in five consecutive Champions League matches.
PSG are the favourites but I can see an upset here. Real Madrid’s away form is hard to ignore and the value is certainly with Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Real Madrid +0.25 (AH) is a tempting 2.21 and is my tip for this match.
Sporting CP vs Manchester City Best Bet
The favourites look to go one step closer to winning their first Champions League title as Manchester City take on Sporting. Pep Guardiola’s men were the losing finalists last season but have had an unusual start to their campaign this term. City won four of their six matches and finished top of the group. They still conceded 10 goals in the process and failed to keep a clean sheet.
Away form is the issue for Manchester City. They lost two of their three matches on the road in the group stage. Their sole win came away at Club Brugge. City haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last five Champions League away matches. They haven’t fared well in Portugal down the year. City have won only one of their six European matches in the country – that includes last season’s Champions League final.
It’s only the second time that Sporting have made it to the Champions League knockout stage. They lost 12-1 on aggregate against Bayern Munich the first time, the largest aggregate defeat in competition history. They’ll hope for better this time around but either way, I think it will be an entertaining one for the neutrals. I’m going for over 3 total match goals at 2.04.
