Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United Best Bet
Wed, February 23rd, 20:00 (UK Time)
Atletico Madrid host Manchester United in the first leg of their round of 16 tie. It’s the first time these sides have met in a European match since the 1991-1992 Cup Winners’ Cup. The Spanish side won 4-1 on aggregate.
The removal of the away goals rule in Champions League knockout matches will undoubtedly affect things. We can expect away sides to remain defensively strong in the first leg with no real incentive for them to go and win the match. That depends on the visitors being strong defensively. Manchester United haven’t shown they are capable of doing that so we should expect goals.
The bookies disagree. The goal line is at 2.25 but I’m thinking bigger here. Atletico had an average of 2.5 total match goals in their Champions League group matches while Manchester United had around 3.2. There has been over 2.5 goals in nine of United’s last 10 away Champions League matches. I think this one will be the same.
- Selection: Over 2.5 Goals
- Best Odds: 2.20 (bet365)
- Stakes: 8/10

Benfica vs Ajax Best Bet
Wed, February 23rd, 20:00 (UK Time)
Benfica host favourites Ajax in the first leg of their tie. These two European greats have met several times down the years and the Dutch side has the better of it. They’ve won four and drawn two of their last six meetings against Benfica. They’re unbeaten in their last three away matches against them in European competition. The most recent of which was a 1-1 draw in November 2018.
Ajax won all six group stage matches. No side outside of the big five leagues has ever won seven consecutive matches in the Champions League. They scored an average of 3.3 goals per match in the groups. Only Bayern Munich had a higher goalscoring rate.
It all points to a dominant Ajax win but the bookies are expecting it. The only way to find real value is by backing them with a major handicap but I’m not convinced. Benfica have been poor at home in recent weeks but they still beat Barcelona 3-0 earlier in the season.
I’m more inclined to look at the goals market. I’m going over on goals in this one as well considering how strong Ajax have been in attack so far this campaign. They’ve also shown they are capable of conceding so I feel confident about a high-scoring match.
- Selection: Over 3 Goals
- Best Odds: 2.15 (10bet)
- Stakes: 6/10
What is a Champions League Acca?
A Champions League acca is an accumulator bet, a type of wager that is made up of several different selections combined together into a single bet. A Champions League acca would usually consist of a single bet made up of four or more selections on Champions League matches.
The Champions League acca is a popular way to bet on European football matches. As more selections are added to the bet, the odds rapidly increase as all are multiplied together. This can lead to massive odds for a small stake if building an acca for a Champions League match.
As is the same with double and treble bets, all selections need to win or the accumulator loses. That is why so many look for Champions League acca tips for guidance.
