Burnley vs Brentford Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview

Burnley vs Brentford Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
Burnley vs Brentford prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview - Ivan Toney of Brentford during the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium, London

It’s a Burnley vs Brentford prediction, team news, lineups, and fixtures preview next on the agenda for Tom Winch here at bettingexpert as we tackle the Saturday afternoon Premier League game at Turf Moor.

Time is ticking for Kompany and Burnley. The Clarets have struggled massively this campaign. The hosts are ten points from safety with as many games left to play. Thomas Frank’s side is not safe just yet. Only Sheffield United have earned fewer points in their previous 15 matches. Our Burnley vs Brentford prediction is for the match to end 2-2.

  1. Burnley vs Brentford Tip 1: BTTS – Yes & Each Team Over 0.5 Cards
  2. Burnley vs Brentford Tip 2: Ivan Toney AGS
  3. Burnley vs Brentford Tip 3: David Datro Fofana Over 0.5 Shots On Target & Over 0.5 Second Half Goals

Burnley vs Brentford Prediction 1: Bigger Than Anticipated?

England, Premier League, Saturday, March 16th, 15:00 (UK)

Vincent Kompany and his Burnley side must earn points and fast. They have ten matches left to remain in the Premier League. It looks like an impossible task. Defensively, Burnley have been a shambles. The Clarets have managed a lowly two clean sheets all season. You cannot trust them at the back against anyone in the division. If the hosts are to win a football match, they will need to score more than once. Managing that has been a struggle. Only seven teams have shipped twice or more against Burnley.

Brentford are still fighting for their place in the Premier League. The Bees are five points clear of Luton. Rob Edward’s men have a game in hand. Thomas Frank’s men have lost 13 of their previous 17. The visitors have managed just a single shutout in 18, a worrying statistic.

Can we trust either side defensively? Absolutely not. The pair have managed just six clean sheets in a combined 56 Premier League matches.

Burnley have been cautioned in 93% of matches this term. The Bees have seen a card in 96% of their outings. I expect both clubs to give everything in this encounter. A positive result is vital, especially for the hosts.

Burnley vs Brentford Prediction 2: Toney To Pounce On Lacklustre Defence

Ivan Toney is a cracking player. The talented 27-year-old should have a field day against one of the poorest defences in the league. The number 17 is the biggest goal threat amongst both squads, which makes me happy to back him on Saturday afternoon.

Ivan Toney Premier League Stats - bettingexpert

Ivan Toney Premier League Stats – bettingexpert

Ivan will start this match, and I predict our man will play every minute. He has not been replaced in any appearance since his return after his lengthy ban.

The Englishman has scored four times in nine outings. His side has faced City (x2), Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Those sides are a tricky bunch. Burnley is considerably worse than the sides Brentford have previously faced. I expect him to have plenty of joy.

Toney has averaged 2.78 across those nine matches. He was kept quiet in matches against Chelsea and Arsenal. The upcoming encounter is ideal. Ivan will get chances for sure.

The offer price is appealing. Toney averaged 0.61 goals per 90 in 23/24. Burnley have kept two clean sheets all season. That will not improve here. Our man is also the designated penalty taker, a bonus regarding our selection.

  • Best Odds: 2.30

Burnley vs Brentford Prediction 3: Doubling Up At Turf Moor

David Datro Fofana has been somewhat of a menace since his loan move. The Ivorian has bagged three times in 507 minutes for Burnley. He scored the opener against West Ham and twice against Fulham here. I expect to see the youngster start once again.

Burnley needs maximum points in this encounter. They do have a chance of obtaining three here. Fofana is the most likely goal threat, and I expect the forward to have opportunities in attack.

The 21-year-old managed a shot on target against Bournemouth here last time out. He had a great chance to score at Anfield. Unfortunately, his attempt was saved. Arsenal and Palace are the only teams to prevent DDF in this market. Arsenal dominated the Clarets; Palace were up against ten men for most of that contest.

To boost the odds, I’m adding a second selection to this bet. A second-half goal has arrived in 12 of 14 matches at this venue. A whopping 13 of Brentford’s 14 away days have seen this selection land.

It’s a game where neither side can afford to lose. This clash is massive for Burnley. The combination appeals to what should be an intriguing watch.

  • Burnley vs Brentford Prediction 3: David Datro Fofana Over 0.5 Shots On Target & Over 0.5 Second Half Goals (TRACKED BET)

Burnley vs Brentford Team News and Possible Lineups: Burnley In Decent Shape. Brentford Riddled With Injuries.

Vincent Kompany’s squad is relatively strong. Aaron Ramsey’s season is over. The 21-year-old is suffering from a cruciate ligament injury. Jordan Bayer has been out since the end of 2023. He’s likely to return for this match.

Koleosho, Foster and Redmond will miss this encounter. David Datro Fofana is likely to lead the line. It’s been a tough season for James Trafford, but he’ll remain between the sticks.

Brentford have a lengthy injury list. Ben Mee, Josh Dasilva and Rico Henry won’t feature again in 2023/24.

Sergio Reguilon, Schade, Norgaard are all doubts. Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbuemo won’t feature here. Aaron Hickey is likely to return at the very end of the season.

Burnley possible starting lineup: Trafford; Assignon, O’Shea, Esteve, Taylor, Vitinho, Berge, Cullen, Larsen, Fofana; Odobert

Brentford possible starting lineup: Flekken; Zanka, Ajer, Collins, Roerslev, Onyeka, Jensen, Janelt, Lewis-Potter, Wissa; Toney

Match OPTA Stats: Dropping points all over the shop

  • Brentford (28) and Burnley (20) are the two teams to have dropped the most points from winning positions  in the Premier League this season (before Bournemouth v Luton), with the Clarets letting a 2-0 lead slip to  draw with West Ham last time out. In the case of both teams, it’s the most points they’ve ever dropped  having led in a single Premier League campaign.
  • Burnley are winless in their last 10 Premier League games (D3 L7) since a 2-0 win at Fulham in December.  Their eight games without a win so far in 2024 is their longest run without a league victory from the start of  a calendar year since 2007 (12).
  • 85% of Burnley’s Premier League goals this season have come from open play (23/27), with no side netting  a higher share of their goals from open play this term (Nottingham Forest also 85%). It’s also the Clarets’  highest percentage of goals from open play in a single Premier League campaign.
  • Having won three consecutive Premier League games in October/November, Brentford have since won just  three of their last 17 (D1 L13). Since the weekend of the first game in that run, the Bees have lost more  Premier League games than any other side (13).
