Since arriving in New South Wales, Aspostolos Stamatelopoulos has firmly become a fan favourite for his goal-scoring and work rate.
The 24-year-old arrived after a disappointing season in Greece with PAS Giannina, failing to score once in the league. Born in Australia, Stamatelopoulous is of Greek descent and has previous in the A-League, having had spells at Adelaide United and Western United as a youngster. However, he failed to make much of an impact and departed for Greece.
Just two years later, he is back in Australia and has certainly made an impact, scoring seven goals in nine starts thus far.
A 92nd-minute equaliser on his debut away at Perth Glory set the 24-year-old up for success, and he has yet to look back. Stamatelopoulous has shown he’s not shy about shooting, averaging over 2.4 shots per game since arriving. 50% of these have been on target, showing how clinical he is. The Jet’s main man ranks highly in most attacking metrics and has recorded a 5.22 xG thus far this season (0.66 per game).
Now back from suspension, he will be raring to go and will fancy his chances of scoring against statistically the worst defence in the league.
