Brest vs Lille Prediction 1: Lille to show their class in race for the Champions League
France, Ligue 1, Sunday 17th March, 12:00 (UK)
Brest must be respected for an excellent season so far, but as I mentioned in a preview last week, it is logically unsustainable for this squad to stay in second position. Manager Eric Roy has worked wonders since joining the club in January last year, and the Brittany outfit would dearly love to qualify for Europe. Their 13-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 was ended last week when Lens beat them in a tight 0-1 loss.
Brest did not disgrace themselves at all in that clash, but you do wonder how much of an effect that will have on the squad. Will they now start to believe less, and normality sets in?
Brest have a strong home record with only PSG beating them here but this will be an extremely tough test vs a formidable Lille outfit. The visitors are one of the best sides in the division with some strong metrics, especially at the back. LOSC have only conceded 22 goals all season and opponents average fewer shots against them than any other side in the division.
They play on Thursday night in the Europa Conference League but that tie vs Austrian side Sturm Graz looks done at 3-0 up. This will be the priority game and at this stage of the campaign I have to put my money on the proven, experienced and better quality side in Lille.
Taking them on a DNB 0.0 AH line looks like a secure option because I don’t see them losing.
- Brest vs Lille Prediction 1: Lille 0.0 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)

Brest vs Lille Prediction 2: Clean sheet potential for both sides
Brest has only conceded seven goals at home all season, with five of those coming against PSG and Lens combined. They have kept a stunning 8 out of 12 clean sheets at Le Stade Francis Le Ble, and we are getting to the stage of the season where this isn’t a fluke. At some stage, I think they will get found out, and the pressure of being embroiled in a European battle could affect the squad.
However, until that happens then we should probably be looking at unders and BTTS no in their home games. The goal line is set at a measly 2.25 and bordering over/under 2 goal territory. BTTS no looks a lot more appealing at 1.80 even if it won’t cover for a 1-1 draw.
Lille have kept 14 out of 25 clean sheets in Ligue 1 this season and their tactical setup makes it difficult for opponents to get shots against them. Brest have done well this season but their one area of weakness is their firepower compared to some other top sides.
In Steve Mounie and Romain Del Castillo they have two respectable attackers but they won’t make any defense lose sleep. We must acknowledge that a 0-0 stalemate could be a runner here and that goals should be at a premium. BTTS no looks like a better option compared to the under goal line and would even cover for the unlikely eventuality of someone winning 3-0 or 4-0.
- Brest vs Lille Prediction 2: BTTS – No (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
Brest vs Lille Prediction 3: Tight game could lead to a half time stalemate
Backing the half-time draw in Ligue 1 has been fairly successful for me this season. There have been some good spots to take it, and this feels like another possible opportunity. Whenever I suspect a low-scoring under-type of contest is on the cards then the half-time draw sticks out as a bet to consider. The bookmakers expect this as well, and we are only getting odds of 2.0 on this occasion, but it feels entirely fair and justified. With both sides looking extremely strong defensively, then we might get a situation where chances are at a premium in the first 45 mins, with the 0-0 result entirely possible at the interval.
Neither side is especially known for their half-time draws this season, with Brest actually behind on nine occasions this term. Lille has only been losing at half-time five times and tends to come out of the traps well. Last week was a rare example of a poor opening half for them vs Rennes.
I just feel that the type of game we will see makes the style worth considering for things to be very balanced for a long period. An overall match score of 0-0 wouldn’t actually surprise me here which obviously means the HT draw would cash as well. We must acknowledge that if a team does get ahead then they will probably stay ahead, but from a percentage aspect at these odds then an all square first period is a bet which I can take with smaller stakes.
- Brest vs Lille Prediction 3: Half Time Result – Draw (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.00
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
