Josh Ingram is on hand to oversee a Brentford vs Tottenham prediction preview at the Gtech community stadium, where the second and third highest goals-per-game Premier League teams face off. As mentioned, whenever they have stepped on a pitch this season, these two typically produce goals, whether in their net or the opposition.

Spurs are going to one of the toughest stadiums in the country to get a result whilst occupying 15th position, with Ange Postecoglu under heavy pressure after picking up just four points from the last 30 available.

Brentford vs Tottenham Prediction: Feast of goals in the First Half

England, Premier League, Saturday, February 1st, 14:00 (UK)

The only angle I want to be involved with when these two meet is goals. All the usual avenues are expectedly short, including over 3.5 goals at 1.90. However, goals in the first half appealed at the prices. Tottenham have scored 24 times in the first 45 minutes, the second most in the Premier League. At the other end, they’ve conceded 21 goals, the sixth worst.

Brentford are the sixth-highest scorers, with 22 in the first half and seventh worst for goals conceded in the first half. First halves in the Premier Leagues have seen over 1.5 goals in 37% of games; Brentford sits slightly above this at 39% (9 games), and Tottenham way above at 57% (13 games).

Brentford at the Gtech is a different animal compared to the Bees on the road. Away from home, they have just 8 points, with games averaging 2.8 goals per90. While at the Gtech, Thomas Frank’s side boast the fourth-best record in the league with seven wins, collecting 23 points, and a goals average of 4.33 goals per90. Their attacking numbers are impressive, with the eight-best xG per90 (1.58). Their efficiency in the goals-per-shot data leads the league (0.15). This bet isn’t just reliant on Tottenham. The Bees could easily cover it themselves.

Spurs should play their part as well. Despite their horrible season, Ange’s side are still scoring lots of goals. They are the fourth-highest scorers in the league with 44 strikes. Outside of the top seven, Spurs have the best goal difference despite being 15th.

Defensively, these sides can be suspect, with the Bees’ net breached on 39 occasions, four more than Spurs in 2024/25. A large part of this for Spurs is the lengthy injury list, especially in the back line. Due to Vicario’s injury, Daniel Levy had to dip into the transfer market for a goalkeeper. The centre-back duo of Christian Romero and Micky Van Der Ven have rarely played together this season; instead, in recent weeks, Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin. This partnership isn’t conducive to low-scoring games. And the latter looks as if he picked up a knee injury on Thursday night in the Europa League – when it rains, it pours!

There will be many goalscoring talents on the one pitch on the weekend, which is always handy for a goals-based selection. For the Bees, they have two leading men, Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo. Wissa is having an impressive season in front of goal with 11 goals to his name, just one behind his tally from last season, providing two assists. Mbeumo is the leading goalscorer for the Bees with 14, which is already five more than his best-ever Premier League tally.

Spurs’ strikes are more spread out across their forwards. Their top three goal scorers, James Maddison (8), Dom Solanke (7) and Brennan Johnson (7), are all out injured, but Heung-min Son (6) and Dejan Kulusevki (6) are available and have both been in relatively good form of late. This is a bet where I would put people off of having either side score twice in the first half on their own, especially Brentford, but I’ve opted for the safer option.

Brentford vs Tottenham Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups Prediction: Brentford welcome players back and Spurs still suffering

Brentford have some players out at the moment. However, a few of these should be in contention for this weekend’s game. Christian Norgard and Kevin Schade came off last week as a precaution but should be fit enough to start this week. Josh Dasilva and Ethan Pinnock are expected back soon after long layoffs, but it’s unsure if they will be rushed back and may well need a few more weeks. New signing Michael Kayode didn’t get his international clearance last week but will likely feature in the squad on Sunday.

Spurs have been hampered by injuries all season, more so than any other team. Those on the sideline have missed the most days collectively this season, with the club experiencing the most individual injuries. Currently, 12 first-team players are still missing due to various injuries. One key absentee is Dom Solanke, whose knee issue will keep him out until March. Luckily, it didn’t require surgery. Top goalscorer James Maddison has a calf strain keeping him out for a couple more weeks. Cristian Romero is still a couple of weeks away. At the same time, a small positive note is the return of Micky Van De Ven, who has been training for roughly ten or so days is expected to get some minutes in the Europa League to ramp up his journey to full-match fitness.

Brentford possible starting lineup:
Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt, Mbuemo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa

Tottenham possible starting lineup:
Kinsky, Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Spence, Bergvall, Bentancur, Sarr; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son

Match Stats: A goal heavy fixture in recent years

  • In the last three games between these two, 13 goals were scored, 9 of them being in the first half.
  • When they met in the reverse fixture in September, Brentford went up 1-0 but lost 3-1.
  • Since Brentford returned to the top flight, they have played seven times, with The Bees only winning once, 3-1 away at Spurs. Mbuemo scored twice and Wissa with the third.
