Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen continue to have a superb season with just two defeats in 24 games across all competitions. It is now seven wins in a row as the Leverkusen juggernaut looks to be clicking into gear ahead of 2025 and the business end of the season. Freiburg meanwhile are having a great season sat in 5th ahead of the last match before the winter break. The side from Baden-Württemberg have taken advantage of the rest of the league outside the top 4, with the most wins based on a terrific home record. However, there should be no resting on their laurels with just three points separating 5th to 11th.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg Prediction 1: BTTS in the Bundesliga

Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, December 21st, 17:30 (UK)

Bayer Leverkusen picked up another comfortable win on Saturday with a 2-0 victory at Augsburg. They scored twice in the 1st half before managing the game after the break and using all five substitutes to give the starting XI a break and minutes in the legs to others. Martin Terrier hadn’t started a Bundesliga game for two months but he came in upfront and scored, whilst it was only Nathan Tella’s 3rd league start and he laid on an assist for the second goal for Florian Wirtz. Leverkusen have so many threats in the squad from so many different areas of the pitch so much so that they’ve had 15 different goalscorers and 13 different assisters already across all competitions this season.

It’s very difficult to stop Die Schwarzroten with Leverkusen firing in the 2nd most shots in the league at 16.9 per-game. This has seen them generate the 4th most expected goals at 28.72 resulting in scoring 32 goals in just 14 games, 2.29 per-game. It’s going to be a very difficult game for the visitors, emphasised by Leverkusen’s match odds of 1.40, with Freiburg already having lost to all of Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund away from home, all by more than one goal.

However, defensively they can give the opposition a chance. They may only have conceded the 2nd fewest shots but at 10.5 per-game, it’s more than twice Bayern Munich’s (5.2). They rank 3rd for expected goals against with 17.21 conceded, almost twice more than Bayern’s (7.85). So whilst they rank high, their defensive figures are not anywhere near elite when put into context. As a result, this has seen them concede 20 goals in the league, meaning they’ve kept just two clean sheets all season! With them also having scored in every game, both teams have scored in 86% of their fixtures, including six of seven at home.

Freiburg’s lofty Bundesliga position is fully merited. They are firing in the 5th most shots in the league in 14.1 per-game, generating the 6th most expected goals. As a result, they sit 3rd based on expected points. They should more than be able to give Leverkusen a run for their money with the latter’s clean sheet issues. Only 50% of Freiburg’s games have seen both teams to score but they’ve scored in 64% of games themselves. Given they are just 1.66 to score, the increase to 1.90 with Leverkusen also finding the back of the net looks a great bet in a goals galore league like the Bundesliga. Combined 19 of these two sides 28 matches have seen both teams score (68%).

Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups Prediction: 2025 for Boniface & Bayer

Victor Boniface is not expected to be back until after the winter break following the thigh injury picked up on international duty for Nigeria in November. He’s scored 20 Bundesliga goals for Xabi Alonso’s side since arriving last summer but with injuries it means he’s already missed 19 league matches in his short time at the club. Fellow forward Amine Adli is also still missing as well as midfielder Jonas Hofmann.

Freiburg have only a couple of injury issues themselves with backup goalkeeper Florian Muller out and longer-term midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh who suffered an ACL February 2023.

Bayer Leverkusen possible starting lineup:
Hradecky; Tapsoba, Tah, Hincapie; Frimpong, Andrich, Xhaka, Grimaldo; Tella, Wirtz; Terrier

Freiburg possible starting lineup:
