Manchester City are gearing up to turn their season around with a flurry of activity in the January transfer window. After a challenging run of just one win in 13 matches between October and December, Pep Guardiola’s side is looking to strengthen its squad to secure a Champions League spot and end the season on a high.

Their recent performances suggest the worst may be behind them, and the addition of reinforcements could provide the boost they need. City’s impressive track record of late-season surges makes them a team to back in the outright markets.

An Improved Defence Could Be Key

Defensive frailties have plagued City this season, exacerbated by injuries to key players like Rodri. Without him, City conceded an additional 0.46 goals per game last season, underlining the need for fresh defensive options. Pep is targeting Abdukodir Khusanov, the Uzbek international known for his pace and tackling prowess. Khusanov ranks in the 98th percentile for tackles and interceptions among European midfielders, making him an ideal addition.

Young Brazilian defender Vitor Reis is also on the radar. At just 18, the Palmeiras starlet offers physicality and potential that could bolster City’s backline in critical matches.

Offensive Reinforcements to Relieve Haaland

Erling Haaland has not quite hit his stride this season, despite scoring 16 league goals. To ease the burden on the Norwegian, City are reportedly pursuing Omar Marmoush of Eintracht Frankfurt. Marmoush’s average of 0.54 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes over the last year could add valuable firepower to City’s attack.

History Favors City’s Comebacks

Manchester City have a reputation for strong finishes. Last season, they won 15 of their final 18 Premier League matches, scoring an average of 2.67 goals per game while conceding just 0.61. Despite currently sitting 6th, City are only two points off the top four and remain well within reach of second place.

Back City in the Outright Markets

With back-to-back league wins and an emphatic 8-0 FA Cup victory over Salford, City appear to have regained confidence. The upcoming fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League present an opportunity for Pep’s men to close the gap on their rivals.

As reinforcements arrive and form improves, now is the perfect time to back Manchester City to bounce back and secure a top-four finish.
