Anthony Martial is on the verge of a surprising move to Greek giants AEK Athens after leaving Manchester United at the end of the 2023/24 season. With his contract expiring in June and no renewal offered by the Red Devils, the Frenchman has been without a club since July. Check out United’s next game against Crystal Palace! However, recent reports suggest that the former AS Monaco star will soon be heading to Greece, with AEK Athens ready to offer him a fresh start. (via Mirror)

A Surprising Destination for Martial

Martial’s decision to join AEK Athens has raised eyebrows. The Greek Super League isn’t a typical destination for high-profile players who have spent time at prestigious clubs like Manchester United. However, AEK’s management and sporting director have worked hard to secure the services of the 28-year-old forward, persuading him to continue his career in the Balkans.

Sebastien Denis from Foot Mercato revealed the details of Martial’s contract with AEK Athens. The French international is expected to sign a deal that will keep him in Greece until June 2027, earning an annual salary of €2.5 million. This move could provide Martial with the game time and consistency he struggled to find during his later years at Old Trafford.

AEK Athens Looking to Strengthen Their Squad

Martial will join a team currently enjoying success under manager Matias Almeyda, who led AEK Athens to both the Greek championship and the Greek Cup in 2023. The club, which boasts players like Polish international Damian Szymański, Croatian veteran Domagoj Vida, and ex-Premier League players Erik Lamela and Roberto Pereyra, is eager to bolster its attacking options.

With AEK leading the Greek league after four matchdays, Martial’s arrival could provide the firepower they need to maintain their dominance and achieve further success this season.
