After 16 nights of action-packed drama, three former winners and a debutant remain with a chance of taking the Premier League crown in Berlin on Monday.

Both Jonny Clayton and Michael van Gerwen find themselves as firm favourites for their respective encounters, but with little value in the match markets, I will be steering clear of these.

In the first semi-final Jonny Clayton faces Joe Cullen, with The Ferret boasting a 4-2 head-to-head record against the Englishman throughout the competition.

Clayton ended up top of table with 40 points, winning the most nights (4), hitting the most 180s (93) and accumulating the joint most 100+ checkouts (23) along the way.

The Ferret has also won three matches by five legs or more this competition and a further three by four legs, highlighting his ability as a frontrunner when he breaks the throw early on.

For these reasons I expect Clayton to romp to victory, however Cullen does average more 180’s per match (2.96) than any other player this year, so adding the Englishman to hit the most maximums generates some healthier odds.

The second semi-final sees five-time champion Michael van Gerwen face James Wade in what should be an entertaining and closely fought encounter.

Although James Wade is the bookies outsider at odds of 3.0, he won’t be deterred by what faces him after a hugely successful league stage, which saw him pick up a pair of night victories, ending up third in the table.

Both players aren’t strangers to a large checkout, with Wade hitting nine 120+ checkouts and MVG 15 this competition. Van Gerwen has also hit a 155 and a 145 checkout in his last two Premier League matches.

In my opinion the match is too close to call, so turning towards the match action side market on Sky Bet is my favourite play of the second semi-final at odds of 5.0.

However, my best bet of the play-offs is for Jonny Clayton to win a sixth major title of his burgeoning career and secure back-back Premier League titles.

  • Selection: Jonny Clayton to win the Premier League
  • Best Odds: 2.75 (Sky Bet)
  • Stake: 7/10

Odds as at 5pm June 10th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
