Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans Best Bet

Thursday, April 14th, 3pm (UK time)

The IPL heads to the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday for a heavyweight clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans.

Last time out the Royals defended 165 against the Lucknow Super Giants, with Shimron Hetmyer and Yuzvendra Chahal proving their worth following big money transfers in the mega-auction. However, for the Titans, an eight-wicket defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad was their first blip as a newly formed franchise.

Pre-tournament questions surrounding the strength of the Titans middle order was visible in their uninspiring 162/7, which included 22 extras. And it is this lack of batting power – in comparison to the Royal’s power-packed lineup – that has led me to fall on a market which although short in odds, still represents significant value.

When comparing the number of maximums hit by each side this tournament, an obvious gulf in class appears. The Royals as an XI have cleared the rope a staggering 46 times in four games, with Buttler striking 15 sixes, Hetmyer 14 and captain Sanju Samson a further 9.

The Englishman has also proven he can strike it cleanly at the DY Patil Stadium, smoking five sixes in his flashbang hundred against the Mumbai Indians, with Hetmyer and Samson adding a further three a piece in the encounter.

In total the 46 maximums hit by the Royal’s equates to more than any other team in the league, while the Titans sit bottom of this list with a meagre 16.

Although their batting line-up possesses quality stroke-makers such as Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, both have opted out of the aerial route, sitting 4th and 5th in the overall standings on fours hit, while slipping to 23rd and 59th in the maximum charts.

Although, there is the possibility that the under-performing Matthew Wade or David Miller could catch fire with the bat, I’m backing the Double R’s to come out victorious in this market. If requiring a slight boost in odds, I wouldn’t shy away from a Rajasthan victory alongside the most sixes, which comes out above evens.
