Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL Best Bet

Thursday May 5th, 3pm (UK time)

As the season reaches its climax and the playoff battle intensifies, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals face off in a crucial encounter at the Brabourne Stadium.

For the Capitals, an inability to record back-to-back victories all campaign leaves them languishing in mid-table, and they arrive following a tight defeat to Lucknow Super Giants.

The Men in Blue have relied heavily on their top order, scoring at the highest run rate of any team within the powerplay (9.54 rpo), but have subsequently struggled against spin in the middle period, averaging just 78 in overs 7-16.

Under the guidance of Dale Steyn, Hyderabad’s seam bowling quartet has continued to produce the goods, in particular 22-year-old sensation Umran Malik, who’s blistering pace has proven a menace throughout IPL 15.

However, at the top of the order Kane Williamson’s struggles have continued when opening the batting, hitting just 195 runs at an archaic strike rate of 99.48.

Although both Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram have performed admirably among their captains’ poor returns, the Kiwis sluggish scoring has seen the Sunrisers score the fewest runs per match of any team this season (av-157) and consistently fall behind the required rate from the get-go.

This is in stark contrast to Delhi openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw who have flown out of the blocks on numerous occasions, hitting a powerplay total of 81-0 against Punjab Kings and recording a lowest of just 47 in their last five games.

In-form Warner has already recorded three half centuries in seven matches, and the Aussie will be bidding to exact revenge on his old franchise with a bold innings at the top of the order.

In the side markets, 14/1 on Kuldeep Yadav for man of the match seems overly priced considering he has already scooped this award on four occasions this season.

If pressure falls on the Sunrisers middle-order to play recklessly against Yadav following a slow start in the powerplay, the spinner might well reap the rewards, so this is also worth due attention.
