Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders Best Bet: Thursday April 28th
Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders IPL Best Bet
Thursday, April 28th, 3pm (UK time)
After promising starts to IPL 15, the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders find themselves languishing in mid-table and are in much need of the two points on offer at the Wankhede Stadium.
Mitchell Marsh was the latest player in the Delhi camp to test positive for Covid-19 prior to their loss against Rajasthan Royals, and the Capitals will hope he will return to the XI.
However, the ever-improving Prithvi Shaw has found a new lease of life beside David Warner at top of the order, and their consistency has resulted in four 50+ opening stands in five matches.
In recent weeks, KKR’s star-studded squad has proven their own downfall, as they have struggled for consistency in selection and arrive on the back of four defeats.

They have been unable to find a reliable top order, choosing a different opening combination in each of their last four outings.
This has resulted in a string of poor starts – their previous five opening stands amounting to a meagre 53 runs (5, 0, 11, 21, 16) – with Sunil Narine, Aaron Finch and most recently Sam Billings given the opportunity to open the batting.
None of these three have been given a fair crack of the whip alongside captain Shreyas Iyer, and with another change in personnel likely on Thursday, further struggles could lie ahead for KKR’s top order.
In stark contrast Delhi have relied heavily on runs from the willow of Shaw and Warner, with the Aussie lavishing praise on his younger counterpart, who has taken on an almost Virender Sehwag style of batting.
The pair’s consistency has proven remarkable, with their last five partnerships (43, 83, 50, 93 and 67 runs) the best of any side in the IPL; and considering KKR’s bowlers have failed to take a powerplay wicket in their last two outings, this positive trend could well continue.
For this reason, the ‘team with highest opening partnership’ is the market I’m banking on, with Delhi reaching a higher total in six out of the last seven matches.
