NCAA March Madness Best Bets: Sunday March 20th
March Madness closes out the first weekend of the NCAA Men’s Tournament, and our college basketball expert EJ Garr has found 2 more of his best value picks for the round. He’s backing 1 underdog in the form of a Hurricane and suggesting a tightly-contested Over to sneak in from the Arizona vs TCU affair.
March Madness Best Bets Sunday, March 20th
- Auburn vs Miami: Miami +7.5 points
- Arizona vs TCU: Over 142.5 points
Odds as of 2am March 20th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
Auburn vs Miami Best Bet
Sunday, March 20, 23:45 (UK time)
The Auburn Tigers will once again be tested and they’ll likely be without Jaylin Williams who took a blow to the mouth in their first-round win over Jacksonville State. Walker Kessler landed a clean elbow to Williams’ teeth and the teammates both had to come out of the game in the second half for a spell to get medical attention. Williams is now under concussion protocol.
The Tigers struggled early with Jacksonville State but eventually pulled away to earn a 19-point win to open the tournament. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes pulled an upset over the USC Trojans as 2-point underdogs to earn this 2nd round appearance.
Despite fouling out of the game, Isaiah Wong led the Hurricanes with a 22-point effort while converting 8 of his 9 attempts from the charity stripe. The Trojans did a good job limiting the Canes leading scorer from having a big influence on the outcome of the game holding Kameron McGusty to 12 points.
McGusty and Wong have been leading the charge all season long for Miami although Head Coach Jim Larrañaga relies heavily on his 5 starters who all average over 30 minutes a contest. Larrañaga has yet to lead the Hurricanes past the sweet 16 of the tournament from his 11 years in South Beach but that could change this time around with a big upset of the Tigers on Sunday.
- Selection: Miami +7.5
- Odds: 1.91 (William Hill)
- Stakes: 4/10
Arizona vs TCU Best Bet
Monday, 01:40 (UK time)
The Horned Frog defense made Seton Hall look like a Pirate out of the water holding their first-round opponent to only 42 points en route to a 27-point win. Jamie Dixon has relied on that defense all season long but the one thing they haven’t had a taste of yet is the Arizona offense.
By the same token, the Arizona defense is among the best in the nation ranking 6th overall holding opponents to 38.2% shooting from the floor but their offense is also among the most potent in the land. Arizona is putting 84.7 PPG this season and TCU will simply not be able to provide enough of a fight to keep them under their season average.
Arizona is a perfect 6 – 0 this season playing at neutral sites and the line setters are pointing to another easy win showing the Wildcats. The Pac-12 champions are just about double-digit favorites to wrap up the opening weekend of the tournament in San Diego, CA. I expect an 85 – 70 final score and despite the defensive abilities of both squads, the total will sneak in over the number.
- Selectoin: Arizona vs TCU Over 142.5
- Odd: 1.90 (bet365)
- Stakes: 4/10
