Houston has provided quite the storyline riding their stellar defence to reach the Elite 8. The Cougars have held their first 3 opponents in the tournament to an average of 60 PPG and are coming off an impressive win over top-ranked Arizona while holding the Cats’ offence to a mere 60 points. For the second consecutive campaign, Cougar head Coach Kelvin Sampson has gotten his program to the Elite 8 following up their appearance in the Final Four just a season ago.
Houston will be trying to chase down their first-ever championship while the Villanova Wildcats have 3 banners hanging in their rafters from 1985, 2016, and 2018 runs to the title. Nova Head Coach Jay Wright has been on the sidelines for the last two of those tournament wins while the Cats are making their 15th showing in the Elite 8 since 1939.
Villanova has taken out a pair of Big Ten programs although, to be honest, that conference was heavily overrated by the committee. Despite landing the most (9) teams in the big dance, The Big Ten did not deserve all of that respect and they have dropped like flies throughout the event.
As impressive as Houston has been to this point, I still have the Villanova Wildcats moving on to the Final Four but as underdogs, I will just go with the Moneyline offer of 2.15.
- Selection: Villanova to Win
- Best Odds: 2.19 (Marathonbet)
- Stakes: 4/10

Coach K is retiring at the end of this event and he is making his last dance one remember after earning his 100th win in the NCAA Tournament to reach the Elite 8. We can really see how much he is enjoying watching his kids move on in the tournament as even he seems surprised they are still here. Of course, that season-ending loss to North Carolina in Coach K’s last home game left many pundits wondering if Duke was ready for the post-season, and not winning the ACC title didn’t help matters much either.
This appearance marks the 23rd appearance for Duke in the Elite 8 and should the Blue Devils cut down the nets tonight they will earn their 16th Final Four bid in program history.
If you stayed tuned for the post-game interview with Arkansas Head Coach Eric Musselman after the win over Gonzaga, you now know what it really means to take the underdog role to the next level. During every team meal over the week leading to the Sweet 16 game with the Zags, Coach Musselman put a quote on the screen for all to see… “Arkansas has no chance to beat Gonzaga.” Coach literally thanked everyone who said ‘they can’t’ in his interview with Tracy Wolfson and here they are again as underdogs. We’ll take those points again and expect a tight game throughout.
- Selection: Arkansas +4
- Best Odds: 1.90 (Unibet)
- Stakes: 4/10
