NBA Wednesday Night Best Bets: February 2nd
Another Wednesday evening and another edition of my Best Best. We have 9 games on the docket for tonight, but not a lot of betting value in the past week. The OKC Thunder are still keeping their reputation as a gold mine against the spread, whilst the Utah Jazz have been in the roughs in the past few weeks.

Dallas Mavericks vs OKC Thunder Best Bet
The Dallas Mavericks are sitting 5th in the west with 7 wins in their last 10 games, but are coming off a 110-108 loss to the Orlando Magic. Despite playing excellent defence all season, their defensive rating has dropped to 15th in the league in the last 5 games, and their average of points allowed has increased from 103.4 to 109.6. Interestingly enough, their offence has finally gotten going, ranking 9th in the NBA in offensive rating, compared to their record of 20th this season. That said, they faced the Pacers, Magic and Trail Blazers in their last 3 games, all teams that don’t take very much pride in their defence. Kristaps Porzingis will miss this game, along with Tim Hardaway Jr, and the Mavs are underwhelming ATS at home, covering in just half of their games. You’d expect more from a team that’s almost 4th in the western conference.
Meanwhile, the Thunder are maintaining their reputation of an absolute gold mine against the spread this season, covering once again in their last game against the Trail Blazers and earning their 15th win of the season. The Thunder are 14th in the west, and have won just 6 of their 24 road games this year. But surprisingly enough, they are 12th in defensive rating in the NBA this season and have even ranked 3rd in the last 5 games. Although their offence has been one of the worst in the league this year, this team does an excellent job of keeping games close by using their underdog status and solid pace rating of 97.9. The Thunder are the third-best team against the spread this season, covering in 62.5% of their games, and only the Suns and Grizzlies have a better record. But the best part is that nobody remembers to back them, as once again only 4% of bettors are picking them to win tonight. The Thunder lost their last road game against the Mavericks by just 2 points, and I expect them to easily cover the 11.5 point spread.
Tip: OKC Thunder +11.5 at 1.94 odds

Utah Jazz vs Denver Nuggets Best Bet
The Utah Jazz are down in the roughs at the moment, winning just 2 of their last 10 games and going on a 5-game losing streak. They are still 4th in the west but are coming off a 126-106 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and a comeback is seeming less and less likely. They started the season as the best offensive team in the league and a solid defensive side, but their performances have been getting worse by the day. They are 23rd in offensive and 21st in defensive rating in the last 10 games, whilst only averaging 104.6 points per game (28th in NBA). The Jazz are a very slow team, ranking 26th in the league in pace rating, and are suffering a lot of injury/health issues at the moment. In fact, with Joe Ingles, Rudy Gober and Donovan Mitchell out for this one, they should be considered heavy underdogs against the Nuggets.
The Denver Nuggets have lost 7 of their last 10 games, but are coming off a 130-115 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. But they’ve had the second-best offence in the NBA in the last 10 games, and have recently defeated the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. Their bench was once again ineffective in their most recent game, but they usually bounce back after such performances. They are facing an opponent that is struggling to stay afloat at the moment, and they carry solid value as a slight underdog in a game they can’t afford to lose. Almost 70% of bettors are still backing the Jazz to win tonight, making Denver a solid pick despite playing on the road without rest. That said, I advise using smaller stakes in this one.
Tip: Denver Nuggets +1.5 at 1.97 odds
