Defence is still an issue for this team, with107.2 points allowed per game. but it shouldn’t present an issue against a team like the Hornets. They have been one of the top teams ATS this season, covering the spread in 58.8% of their games.

The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the most exciting teams in the league this year, scoring 115.1 points per game with 26.8 assists and a pace rating of 100.4 (2nd in NBA). But they are 7th in the east with 18 wins and 17 losses, with their lack of defence preventing them from achieving their true potential. What’s more, the Hornets have been underwhelming on the road this year, covering the spread in 45.5% of their away games. They are a young team that struggles on the road, and with Miles Bridges out for this game, the value is with the hosts.

Memphis Grizzlies vs LA Lakers

The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the biggest surprises of the year, sitting 4th in the Western Conference with 21 wins and 14 losses. They are one of the best-attacking teams in the league, ranking 7th in offensive rating and averaging 111.1 points per game. Although they started the season playing terrible defence, they have managed to turn it around in the last month, and have ranked 1st in defensive rating in December. The Grizzlies are truly one of the best teams in the league at the moment, and their recent 114-113 win against the Phoenix Suns is exactly the confidence boost that this young team needed. They are also one of the top teams ATS this year, covering the spread in 60.0% of their games.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers are struggling to get going this season, and are one of the biggest disappointments of the year. With 17 wins and 18 losses, they are 7th in the west and have one of the worst offences in the NBA. Despite averaging 110.6 points per game, their efficiency is subpar, and they are committing almost 16 turnovers per game. The Lakers are also the second-worst team ATS in the league, covering in just 37.1% of their games, and with the majority of bettors insisting on backing them every night, they are always worth betting against.

San Antonio Spurs vs Miami Heat

The San Antonio Spurs have struggled to get going from the start of the season, but their recent performances have given the team new energy, and they are now 10th in the western conference. They have one of the best offences in the league, ranking 2nd in offensive rating in December. Their defence has also improved, going up from 14th to 11th in defensive rating, allowing the Spurs to win 8 of their 14 games in the last month. In fact, they have covered the spread in 60% of their games this year, ranking them 5th in the NBA in that regard.

The Miami Heat are having a solid 2021/22 season, sitting 4th in the east with 22 wins and 13 losses, and riding a 4-game winning streak. But they have been dealing with their share of injury/health&safety issues, and their performance in the last month has deteriorated. With 8 of their players out for tonight’s game against the Spurs – Lowry, Adebayo, Dedmon and Tucker among them, their defence will be depleted. In fact, the Miami Heat have ranked 18th both in offensive and defensive rating in their road games in December. This will be the first game of their 6-game road trip, and I expect a fair amount of value betting against the Miami Heat in the coming weeks.

Phoenix Suns vs OKC Thunder 

The Phoenix Suns have dropped down to 2nd place in the Western Conference after suffering 2 losses in a row at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors. That said, they have been one of the best teams in the league, ranking 9th in the NBA in offensive and 3rd in defensive rating. But they haven’t been as dominant ATS this season as one would expect, covering in 47.4% of their home games. This is largely due to their reputation as an elite team, and bettors are racing to back them on any given night. The exact same thing is happening in this one with 90% of bettors backing them tonight against the Thunder, moving the handicap line to a whopping 14 points.

Whilst the OKC Thunder have been one of the worst teams in the league, they are doing an excellent job of covering the spread, and they’ve won half of their games in December. The Thunder are severely underrated this year, and despite their young squad, they are dishing out respectable performances, covering the spread in 63.6% of their games, and their numbers are consistent on the road. Let’s be realistic, the Thunder aren’t a team that can take down the Phoenix Suns, but the 14 point spread is too good to ignore, and I am backing them to cover. Their last encounter was a 113-101 victory for the Suns, and I expect a similar result in this one.
