Another solid outing for the NBA Best Bets last week, going 3/4 in the Friday night edition. This Monday night brings some very interesting games, but not a lot of betting value to be found, which is why there are only 3 selections today.

Miami Heat vs Denver Nuggets

The Miami Heat are having an excellent season with 13 wins and 7 losses, and they are currently 2nd in the Eastern Conference. They have had one of the top defences in the league this season, but they have fallen off in recent games, allowing the Jazz, Lakers, Nuggets and Wolves to go off for high-scoring games. In fact, they allowed the Nuggets to go off for 113 points in their most recent game. But their offence has been solid all season, averaging 108.7 points and 24 assists per game with solid shooting percentages from both inside and beyond the 3-point line.

The Denver Nuggets have been a very peculiar team this year. Though they started the season playing elite defence, they have been 29th in the NBA in defensive rating in their last 5 games. In fact, 4 of their last 5 games have seen large scoring numbers, with their most recent one against the Bucks seeing a total of 229 points. The line for this game is a very low 207.5 points, and with the way these two teams have been playing recently, they should go over easily.

Tip: Over 207.5 points at 1.99 odds

San Antonio Spurs vs Washington Wizards

The San Antonio Spurs have had a very slow start to the season, winning just 5 games since the start of the season and losing 13. The Spurs play a very fast-paced style of basketball, but they also manage to commit very few turnovers with 13.2 per game. Their offence has been respectable, averaging 106.7 points (18th) and 27.4 assists (2nd) per game. They are finishing a 4-game homestand that saw them taking down the Celtics, and just barely losing to the Suns by 4 points. The Spurs have played much better at home this season, covering the spread in 5 of their 9 home games so far.

The Washington Wizards are having an excellent season so far, winning 13 games and losing 7 so far, and grabbing 3rd place in the east. But they have had one of the easiest schedules in the league, and have even underperformed against much weaker teams. This will be their 4th road game in a row before going back to Washington DC to face the Timberwolves, and fatigue will be a huge factor in this one. The Wizards have been below average on both sides of the floor in their last 5 games, and have covered the spread in just 4 of their 11 away games so far.

Tip: San Antonio Spurs +2.5 at 2.00 odds

LA Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans

The Los Angeles Clippers have had a solid start to the season, but they are lacking consistency and have been unable to go on a significant winning streak. Their defence has been one of the best in the league with a rating of 102.7 and allowing only 102.7 points per game (2nd in NBA). But their offence has been one of the worst in the league, averaging just 105.2 points per game, and ranking 25th in the league in offensive rating. The Clippers commit 15.3 per game with only 22.5 assists per game, and an average effective field-goal percentage of 51.5%. The Clippers have won just 2 of their last 5 games, and coming off a difficult 105-90 loss to the Warriors.

The New Orleans Pelicans once again provide excellent value in the handicap market with their solid play recently. They managed to beat the Jazz on Friday night by 1 point, and their defence has been solid recently. They will be facing a team that is struggling to find its offence at the moment, and I expect this game to be very close. 93% of bettors are backing the Clippers to win this one, making the Pelicans a value pick. With a +8.5 advantage at 1.96 odds, the Pelicans are a solid value bet.

Tip: New Orleans Pelicans +8.5 at 1.96 odds
