NBA Best Bets: Wednesday, March 30th
Who would have thought I’d be backing the OKC Thunder again? Well, we’ve got of the best teams against the spread this year playing tonight, and I’m not about to let all of that betting value slip through my fingers. Out of a total 11 games scheduled for Wednesday night, these 2 are my best value bets, and I’m backing them to continue doing what they have been all season – cover the spread.
NBA Best Bets Wednesday, March 30th
- Oklahoma City Thunder vs Atlanta Hawks: Thunder +12.0 at 2.05
- San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies: Grizzlies -6.0 at 1.95
Odds as at 2 pm March 30th 2022. Odds may now differ.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Atlanta Hawks Best Bet

The Oklahoma City Thunder have continued to provide betting value all season long by covering the spread in 65.2% of their games as underdogs. Quite remarkable, especially considering they’ve only won 22 games in the 2021/22 NBA season. They’ve been considered underdogs in most of their games this year, and most NBA bettors have failed to see what this team brings, and with just 10% backing them tonight, it seems they still haven’t learned.
The Thunder are 14th in the NBA standings and are coming off a 134-131 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The Thunder have slowly lifted their form in the late stage of the season and are doing even better against the spread than earlier in the season. They have covered in 8 of their last 10 games, whilst ranking 7th in defensive rating over the last 5. They have had offensive issues all season, that is true, but they have fared reasonably well against poor defensive sides.
The Atlanta Hawks have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, currently sitting 10th in the eastern conference standings with 38 wins and 37 losses. They still have a shot at the playoffs, and their form has improved recently winning 7 of their last 10 games and their last 2. The majority of bettors are backing them to win tonight, and rightly so, but are they really that good? They are available at 1.10 odds to win and the handicap is set at -12.0 points. No, thank you.
The Atlanta Hawks have a road record of 14-23, and they are the worst team against the spread in road games, covering in just 32.4% of their games. The biggest reason behind their underwhelming season has been their lacklustre defence. Despite averaging 113.2 points per game and ranking 2nd in offensive rating this season, they have been one of the worst defensive sides in the league, allowing 112.4 points per game. They have ranked 21st in the NBA in defensive rating over the last 10 games – a period where they have actually seen a lot of success. There’s not a lot of value backing the Hawks these days, and I have no problem turning to the OKC Thunder once again in the handicap market.
- Selection: Thunder +12.0
- Best Odds: 2.05 (Marathonbet)
- Stake: 7/10

San Antonio Spurs vs Memphis Grizzlies Best Bet
Thu, Mar 24. 01:30 (UK)
Things haven’t gone very well for Greg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs in the last 2 years, failing to make the playoffs, but it looks like they have a chance at making it this year. They are 10th in the western conference standings with 31 wins and 44 losses and riding a 4-game winning streak. They have been playing some solid basketball recently, and their schedule is looking very favourable at the moment, facing the Blazers twice, Timberwolves and Warriors.
The Spurs have been one of the fastest teams in the league all season, consistently ranking 4th in pace, and their 12.7 turnovers per game guarantee a lot of shot attempts. But the problem has been their 3-point shooting. Despite making a respectable 35.0% of their threes, the Spurs only attempt 31.9 per game, resulting in just 11.2 there pointers each time out. The Spurs struggle to score against teams that have good interior defence, ranking 21st in 2-point field goal percentage, and the Grizzlies are exactly that. The Spurs haven’t been that good ATS this year, especially at home where they covered in
Speaking of the Grizzlies, they’ve been on a tear recently, winning 9 of their last 10 games and riding a 5-game winning streak. They are now 2nd in the western conference and playing excellent basketball despite the absence of Ja Morant. The Grizzlies are looking to make a better playoff appearance than last year’s where they were bested by the Utah Jazz in 5 games, and with the way they have been playing, it’s very likely to happen. Coach Taylor Jenkins has amassed a record of 53 wins and 23 losses so far and made one of the best teams ATS on the road.
The Grizzlies have covered the spread in 65.8% of their road games this season, bested only by the OKC Thunder with 71.1%, and have covered in 7 of their last 10 games. Much like the Spurs, the Grizzlies also love to play fast, but their 3-point shooting has been excellent in the past month, averaging 14 threes per game on a 40.9% percentage – good for 1st in the NBA. Their interior defence will be the key to victory in this one, as they are top of the league in blocks per game with 6.6, as well as 6th in opponent 2-point field goal percentage with 51.6%. The spread is set at 6.0 points, but the Grizzlies have beaten the Spurs in all 3 of their encounters this year by at least 8 points, and I see a lot of value in backing them tonight.
- Selection: Grizzlies -6.0
- Best Odds: 1.95 (Marathonbet)
- Stake: 8/10
