Like a typical postseason series, it has also been slowed down considerably. These teams both ran a tonne in the regular season, but the pace is just 95 so far this series. Dallas was over 100 in the regular year, while the Thunder were eighth in pace.
There has been more half-court basketball. The skillsets of the respective defenses have done a good job of slowing each other down.
The sheer offensive talent on each team means it’s always possible we get a proper shootout, that hasn’t been the pattern of this series to date. This total just seems a few points too high.

Dallas Mavericks News, Injury Report, Schedule: Role Players Need To Keep Going
When Luka Doncic looked hobbled and Maxi Kleber was ruled out for the series, the Mavericks seemed to be staring down the barrel. Doncic remains on the injury report, but the Slovenian has been at his surgical best over the last couple of games, repeatedly dissecting an elite Thunder defense.
P.J. Washington has been exceptional for the Mavs as a versatile defender and white-hot shooter. Tim Hardaway Jr. delivered in Game Two to keep the Mavs in this series. They need more of the same on Monday night, particularly if the Thunder sell out on Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Oklahoma City Thunder News, Injury Report, Schedule: Inexperience Starting To Show
A young Thunder team has no injury concerns. They have looked raw at times in this series, however, and Josh Giddey’s place in the rotation is surely under threat after three ineffective performances. The way the Mavs are sagging off Giddey is stifling Oklahoma City’s offense.
Luckily, the Thunder have other options in Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, and Aaron Wiggins. Lu Dort has done an exceptional job on Doncic and Irving. The big question for the Thunder is whether any of their inexperienced rotation can deliver enough offense to get a road win under pressure at American Airlines Center.
Gordon Hayward being a complete non-factor has been costly as their veteran trade deadline acquisition. Jalen Williams and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander need someone else to deliver some buckets.
Mavericks vs Thunder H2H: History Is Even
Dallas has a 2-1 head-to-head advantage in this series so far. This is the first time these teams have dueled in the postseason since 2016 when the Thunder ran out of winners in five games.
Oklahoma City has won 90 games to 84 in the all-time regular season series. They have won five of the last seven regular season matchups, including taking the season series in both 2022-23 and 2023-24.
Including the Thunder’s record in their previous iteration as the Seattle Supersonics, they have won three of five postseason series against the Mavericks.
