Panathinaikos vs Barcelona

With a record of 4 wins and 11 losses, Panathinaikos are the second-worst Euroleague team this season. They have won just 3 of their last 10 games, and are coming off a 75-54 loss to Milano. Panathinaikos have been struggling on both sides of the floor all season, averaging just 72.4 points, 14.1 assists and just 33.6% beyond the arc. Their tentative defence has also allowed 78.4 points per game, and with Nemanja Nedovic sidelined with an ankle injury, it’s unlikely they will bounce back any time soon.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are the best Euroleague team this year with 13 wins and just 2 losses. But rivals Real Madrid are lurking close behind, and victory in this one would ensure they stay atop the league standings after Round 16. They are averaging 83.5 points per game with 19.0 assists and a 3-point percentage of 41.5%. Normally, I would advise avoiding heavy favourites, but there is a very large possibility that Barce will celebrate a much larger victory than by 10 points, and I’m willing to make an exception in this case. Panathinaikos simply hasn’t shown enough to be considered a solid underdog this season, which is why I expect a dominant victory by Barcelona here.

Tip: Barcelona -9.5 at 2.11 odds

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Anadolu Efes

Maccabi Tel Aviv had an excellent start to the 2021/22 Euroleague season, winning 7 of their first 10 games, but their form has dropped significantly since early November and they are now on a 5-game losing streak. They are coming off a 90-79 loss against Fenerbahce, and the team’s defensive issues were especially evident, allowing their opponent to shoot 40% from beyond the arc. Another huge issue that has been plaguing this team has been ball-handling, with the team committing 17 or more turnovers in their last 3 Euroleague games.

Meanwhile, Anadolu Efes have recovered their winning form after an abysmal 0-4 start to the season and are now 8th in the Euroleague standings. Efes have won 5 of their last 7 games, and are coming off an 87-72 victory over Baskonia. They are averaging 82.5 points scored and 79.2 allowed per game, along with 16.6 assists and 6.6 steals. Although their defence hasn’t been quite up to par this season, their elite offence and reliable scorers are allowing this team to be successful, especially against tentative defences. They are the better team in this one, and they should be able to easily cover the -3.5 point spread.

Tip: Anadolu Efes -3.5 at 1.95 odds

Monaco vs Zenit St. Petersburg

Monaco have had a very difficult season so far and with 6 wins and 9 losses, they are 14th in the Euroleague standings. But the club decided to part ways with Zvezdan Mitrovic and bring back Sasa Obradovic who coached the team in the 2019-20 7DAYS EuroCup and managed to reach the quarter-finals before the competition was cancelled. The club immediately saw an improvement in form and defeated Zalgiris by 107-98. But this club has already shown signs of excellence this season, beating Unics, CSKA and Bayern Munich, and snapping this recent 5-game losing streak will prove to be a very important feat.

Meanwhile, Zenit have recovered after their 3-game losing streak with a solid 71-61 victory over ASVEL Lyon, and are looking for their second road victory in a row. They have averaged 72.2 points per game with 14.8 assists and a field goal percentage of 45.8%.  But despite some of their impressive home performances this season, Zenit have a tendency to struggle on the road, and consecutive away games can be hard on any squad. They are coming off a hard-fought victory in Lyon, and I expect fatigue to prevent them from playing at the highest level. Home advantage should be enough for Monaco to get into their shooting rhythm and get the job done.

Tip: Monaco -1.0 at 1.96 odds
