Canada vs Spain Prediction, Picks, Odds, News, Injury Report 8/2/24
Canada have already progressed to the knockout rounds thanks to their wins over Greece and Australia. Motivation to top the group remains high, however, as that would keep Canada away from the USA in the next round. Spain have won one and lost one so far – they know a win will be enough to see them through. Read below for our Canada vs Spain prediction for Friday afternoon.

Canada vs Spain Prediction and Picks: Barrett Headlines Bet Builder
- RJ Barrett over 19.5 points
- Canada moneyline
Bet Builder Odds: 2.15
bet365 odds updated on August 1s 2024.
RJ Barrett has led Canada in field-goal attempts in their first two games of this Olympics. Barrett has scored 23 and 24 points against Greece and Australia respectively, continuing his strong performances after being traded to the Toronto Raptors midway through last season. Given Barrett’s hot shooting and his surprisingly large role in Canada’s offence, we feel very confident taking the over here.
The spread is a little big for our liking. Canada did not cover this number in their two meetings with Spain last year, and they haven’t exactly blown out Greece and Australia. So, instead of taking the spread, we’re going with the moneyline boost the odds on Barrett’s points over. There’s great value at 2.15 here.

Canada News, Injury Report, Schedule: Golden Generation
A stacked Canada roster has easily made it past Greece and Australia. RJ Barrett has shone in both games, combining for 47 points and top scoring on both occasions. Even with Jamal Murray struggling off the bench, Canada’s offence was able to torch the Australian defence in their second group-stage game.
An array of perimeter defenders allows Canada to be aggressive on the defensive end. Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Andrew Nembhard are more than able deputies if Luguentz Dort or Dillon Brooks find themselves in foul trouble.
Spain News, Injury Report, Schedule: La Roja Rebuild
Spain have superb Olympic pedigree with medals at three of the last four games. They are ranked second in the world and have won four of the last six EuroBasket events. It’s a period of rebuilding, though, with the Gasol brothers, Ricky Rubio, Jose Calderon, and Juan Carlos Navarro all retiring in the last few years.
La Roja are not the force they have been for much of the last 15 years. This is reflected in finishing sixth at the Tokyo Olympics and ninth at last year’s FIBA World Cup.
Canada vs Spain H2H: Canada Won Twice Last Year
Spain and Canada have faced off three times since 2010. Canada won their two previous meetings (both in 2023), including a victory in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Spain’s last win over the Canadians was in the 2010 World Cup.
Both of Canada’s wins last year saw them fail to cover the 9.5-point spread which has been set by Bet365 for this Olympic group stage contest.
