Aztecs vs Broncos Prediction: Preview, Odds, Trends, March 8th 2024.
We have arrived at the final day of the Mountain West Conference schedule, and the Boise State Broncos will face the San Diego State Aztecs in a clash of two teams in the top 5 of the table. The Aztecs are listed as home favourites with a handicap of -6.5, and the line setters expect a relatively low-scoring game placing the total at 137.5 for this Friday night battle in the MWC.

SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS VS BOISE STATE BRONCOS PREDICTION
- Selection: 1st-Half Under 65.5 Points
- Best Odds: 1.91
- Bookmaker: Bet365
- Stakes: 4/10
We cashed last night’s 1st-half total rather easily, and I am looking to another early cashout with a 1st-Half play on this total to stay under the 65.5 points. The true total is 137.5, and although I suspect this to be a low-scoring game, second halves can certainly become hairy with late free throws in close games among other things.
This is not only the final game of the regular season for these two programs, but they are both in the top 5 of the MWC table Boise State has a bit more to play for considering that they could potentially tie Utah State for first place with a win and an Aggies loss this weekend to New Mexico.
Nevada can also claim a stake for the top spot in the conference with a win over rival UNLV this weekend, but that is no guarantee. UNLV and Nevada are arguably playing the best basketball in the Mountain West lately, so that game will not only matter but also be a blast to tune in and watch.
Regardless, a lot is happening at the top of the MWC table for the final weekend of the regular season, and San Diego State is just a game behind the trio of second-place teams that includes Boise State.
The Aztecs have done one thing well all year: beat any team that has come to Viejas Arena. San Diego State is in line to clinch a perfect 15 – 0 home record with a win tonight against Boise State, and the line setters seem to think they’ll get it.
I am not so sure that Boise State is about to come to Viejas and lay down without a fight, so that +6.5 sure has my attention. I love to think underdog as it is, so I will just come out and say that I suggest making that an additional play from this game.
For me, the first half total has my attention because these defenses are legit. I could go over all of the defensive rankings and stats for both of these teams and impress you with numbers because they are both great defensive teams.
The Aztecs rank 30th in the nation allowing 65.8 PPG, and they rank 18th in the land guarding the arc because they get out and play high to limit ball screens and 3-point shots.
Boise State is a rebounding machine, and we know that will limit second-chance opportunities to anyone they face. The Broncos rank #2 in the nation limiting teams to only 5.9 offensive boards a night, and overall the Broncos rank 7th on the defensive glass.
This is a 30 – 27 game at halftime waiting to happen, so expect a tight one to go on all through the night in California as these two battle for positions in the MWC standings for the tourney. My Aztecs vs Broncos prediction is for there to be fewer than 66 points at the half-time mark.

SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS FORM
This is the final regular season game for the Aztecs, as they try to improve to a perfect 15 – 0 on their home court this campaign.
The Aztecs jumped out to a 14 – 2 start to the season, but they have not won 3 games in a row since that run. San Diego State is only 8 – 6 SU over their last 14 games, and they have only covered six of those games.
San Diego State is only one game behind the three second-place teams, so a win tonight with some help could see them jump as high as a 3-seed for the MWC tourney.
BOISE STATE BRONCOS FORM
This is the final regular season game for the Broncos, as they could potentially take a share of the Mountain West Title. Should Utah State lose to New Mexico on Saturday, the Broncos and Aggies could have level 13 – 5 records in conference play.
The Broncos just had a recent 5-game win streak snapped in their last game against Nevada, and Nevada is also looking to make it a 3-way tie atop the Mountain West Conference standings with a win in their final game against rival UNLV on Saturday.
