Despite being seen as the underdogs in this clash, I will still back the Spaniard to get something out of this match. Although Australia may be star-studded, they have not shown exceptional performances against the big boys and have often struggled to secure victories over Spain. While Spain may not have received much recent PR, they have demonstrated significant credibility. A prime example of this is their unexpected gold medal win at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, as well as their triumph at EuroBasket in 2022.

Australia Form, Injury Report, Team News

Australia is well-prepared for the Olympic Games after playing eight friendlies, with their only loss being a 98-92 defeat to the USA. The depth of the Australian squad should give them an edge here in France. They have many talented players who have either played in the NBA currently or in the past, including Matthew Dellavedova, Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, Josh Giddey, Josh Green, Dyson Daniels, Dante Exum, Jack McVeigh, and Duop Reath.

Additionally, Australia secured a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and finished in fourth place at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. There’s no doubt they will aim to start strong with hopes of winning gold. However, the availability of Dante Exum, who has a dislocated finger, is still in question.

Spain Form, Injury Report, Team News

Spain secured their spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics after a good show in the qualification tournament held in Valencia. They won all four of their games in the qualifiers, including victories over Lebanon, Angola, Finland, and the Bahamas. They also performed exceptionally well in their two friendlies leading up to the Olympics, defeating Argentina 76-72 and Puerto Rico 107-84.

While Usman Garuba and Santi Aldama are the only current NBA players on their roster, the team also features notable EuroLeague stars such as Sergio Llull, Rudy Fernandez, and Lorenzo Brown. Additionally, Juancho and Willy Hernangómez are in top form and ready to make an impact in this clash.
